  1. 1. Intracellular components involved in parathyroid sensing of extracellular calcium

    Författare :Isaac G. Onyango; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Parathyroid hormone; secretion; Src kinase; ERK; PI 3-kinase; PKC; extracellular calcium; parathyroid cell; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Parathyroid glands are the primary regulator of extracellular calcium ([Ca2+]e). Ca2+ plays a key role in many fundamental biological processes and is also an essential structural component of the skeleton. The parathyroid chief cells detect small changes in [Ca2+]e and respond by altering the secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance with special emphasis on IRS-1 and PKB/Akt

  3. 3. Insulin action and secretion after surgical trauma : an experimental study in the rat

    Författare :Lisa Strömmer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :rat; surgical trauma; insulin resistance; glucose transport; PI 3-kinase; intravenous glucose tolerance test; hyperglycemic clamp; pancreatic islets; lipogenesis; lipolysis; uncoupling proteins;

    Sammanfattning : Physical injury or surgical trauma leads to an endocrine-metabolic response that causes a catabolic state designed to promote the healing process. Insulin resistance and mobilization of endogenous fuel stores are prominent changes in metabolism seen after surgery. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Insulin signal transduction in skeletal muscle : special consideration for insulin resistance and diabetes

    Författare :Xiao Mei Song; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :exercise; fiber-type; glucose transport; hyperglycemia; obesity; signal transduction; skeletal muscle; NIDDM;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation work is focused on the insulin-signal-transduction pathways to glucose transport in skeletal muscle from animal models of NIDDM. The overall objective is to determine the effectiveness of different pharmacological treatments to improve insulin action in skeletal muscle. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular mechanisms of insulin action in human skeletal muscle and adipose tissue : implications for diabetes and obesity

    Författare :Marie Björnholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Glucose transport; insulin signal transduction; skeletal muscle; adipose tissue; type 2 diabetes mellitus; obesity; very low calorie diet.;

    Sammanfattning : Studies of animal models of type 2 diabetes mellitus implicate that impaired insulin signal transduction to glucose transport accounts for whole body insulin resistance in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. The overall aim of the present thesis was to determine insulin signal transduction to glucose transport in human skeletal muscle and adipose tissue from type 2 diabetic patients and obese insulin resistant subjects.
