31. Laser-Induced Incandescence for Soot Diagnostics: Theoretical Investigation and Experimental Development
Sammanfattning : Laser-induced incandescence, LII, is a laser-diagnostic technique that can be used to measure the volume fraction and the sizes of soot particles suspended in a gas, such as within a combustion process or in its exhausts. The technique is based on the facts that the time-decay of the radiation from laser-heated soot particles is directly related to the particle size in the probed volume, and that the time-integrated radiation is related to the soot volume fraction. 32. Atomic-scale investigation of interfacial structures in WC-Co at finite temperatures
Sammanfattning : WC-Co cemented carbides combine superb hardness with high toughness making them ideal for usage in high-speed machining of steels and in wear resistance tools. These excellent mechanical properties are to a large extent dependent on the microstructure and thus the interfacial properties of the material. LÄS MER
33. Effective use of X rays in diagnostic radiology : Guidance for the optimisation of image quality and absorbed dose in the patient by use of a Monte Carlo computational model of the imaging chain
Sammanfattning : The primary objective of this thesis is to give guidance for the reduction of absorbed dose in the patient and the improvement of image quality by the optimisation of the various parameters which control the performance of the radiological imaging system. The optimisation means that image quality (contrast in screen-film imaging and signal-to-noise ratio in digital imaging) is kept constant and combinations of operating parameters which yields the lowest mean absorbed dose in the patient is determined. 34. Investigation of a Methodology for the Detection of Diversions in Spent Nuclear Fuel
Sammanfattning : One of the main tasks in nuclear safeguards is the inspection of Spent Nuclear Fuel (SNF) to detect possible diversions of their special nuclear material content, e.g., U-235 and Pu-239. These inspections verify the declared SNF via passive measurements of characteristic signatures such as the emissions of neutrons and gamma rays. LÄS MER
35. Chemistry of Combustion Products Investigation of Combustion Chamber Deposits Formed in a Gasoline Direct Injection Stratified Charge SI Engine
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to characterize deposits formed in the combustion chambers of a gasoline direct injection stratified charge SI engine. The engine was run with several types of gasoline fuels and a special reference engine oil. LÄS MER
