1. In vitro and in vivo aspects of intrinsic radiosensitivity
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on how physical and biological factors influence the outcome of exposures to γ/X-rays. That the dose rate changes during real life exposure scenarios is well-known, but radiobiological data from exposures performed at increasing or decreasing dose rates is lacking. LÄS MER
2. Studies on malaria blood stage infection and host responses
Sammanfattning : The challenges in controlling malaria infectious disease are increasing due to drug resistance and incomplete immunity induced by malaria infection. Moreover there is no effective vaccine available against malaria blood stage infection. LÄS MER
3. The Multifunctional Pipette. A Microfluidic Technology for the Biosciences
Sammanfattning : The theme of the work described in this thesis is the generation and application of liquid microenvironments in chemistry and bioscience using microfluidic devices. First, a computer controlled multi-stage dilution system to generate time-dependent chemical waves was developed, and its application was demonstrated on model biomembranes. LÄS MER
4. Characterization of resistance to quinolones, sulfonamide and trimethoprim in Campylobacter jejuni as well as to macrolides in the related bacterium, Helicobacter pylori
Sammanfattning : Gastroenteritis caused by C. jejuni is usually a mild to moderate self-limiting disease. Treatment is recommended in some cases. In recent years, quinolones have been increasingly used to treat acute bacterial enteritis. LÄS MER
5. Cytochrome P450 enzymes in the biosynthesis and metabolism of bile acids and active forms of vitamin D
Sammanfattning : Cytochrome P450 enzymes catalyzing hydroxylations in the biosynthesis and metabolism of bile acids and active forms of vitamin D3 were studied.A microsomal cytochrome P450 enzyme with a molecular mass of 53 kDa, catalyzing the 6α-hydroxylation of taurochenodeoxycholic acid was purfied from pig liver microsomes and characterized with respect to catalytic and electrophoretic properties as well as polyclonal antibodies.
