  1. 31. Apoptosis, proliferation, and sex steroid receptors in endometrium and endometrial carcinoma

    Författare :Marju Dahmoun; Torbjörn Bäckström; Karin Boman; Stefan Cajander; Seija Grénman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; estradiol; progesterone; steroid receptors; apoptosis; proliferation; endometrial carcinoma; Ki-67; p53; immunohistochemistry; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the involvement of apoptosis and proliferation in the mechanisms of menstruation and hormonal replacement therapy, HRT, as well as in the mechanisms of progesterone therapy in endometrial carcinoma. The aim of the first study was to investigate endometrium for 4 days before and for 2 days during menstruation. LÄS MER

  2. 32. PET in Heart Failure - Methods and Applications

    Författare :Jens Sörensen; Göran Hedenstierna; Elisabeth Ståhle; Bengt Långström; Juhani Knuuti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; congestive heart failure; myocardial ischemia; positron emission tomography; left ventricular dysfunction; tracer kinetic models; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Positron Emission Tomography (PET) permits regional myocardial perfusion, fibrosis and oxidative metabolism to be non-invasively quantified with radioactive tracers such as [15O]-water and [1-11C]-acetate. PET is an established research tool in congestive heart failure (CHF), a major cause of morbidity and mortality. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Retinoic Acid Metabolism Blocking Agents and the Skin : In vivo and in vitro Studies of the Effects on Normal and Diseased Human Epidermis

    Författare :Elizabeth Pavez Loriè; Anders Vahlquist; Hans Törmä; Marie Virtanen; Helen Håkansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CYP; CYP26; retinoids; vitamin A; RAMBA; metabolism; keratinocyte; epidermis; retinoid regulated genes; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Sammanfattning : Retinoic Acid Metabolism Blocking Agents (RAMBAs) increase the endogenous levels of all-trans retinoic acid (RA) by inhibiting CYP26 enzymes. Thus they are believed to mimic the effects of retinoid treatment. Their mechanism of action and effects on vitamin A metabolism in keratinocytes are however uncertain. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Associations Between Rheumatoid Arthritis and Malignant Lymphomas

    Författare :Eva Baecklund; Christer Sundström; Anders Ekbom; Roger Hällgren; Tore Kvien; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; rheumatoid arthritis; malignant lymphoma; diffuse large B-cell lymphoma; disease activity; disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug; Epstein-Barr virus; germinal centre-like non-germinal centre-like subtype; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at increased risk of developing malignant lymphoma, although details about this association remain unclear. The aims of this thesis were to investigate risk factors for lymphoma in patients with RA and to characterize these lymphomas regarding subtype, presence of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), clinical manifestations and prognosis. 5. 35. Low-Density Lipoprotein Oxidation and Renal Dysfunction : New Markers of Poor Prognosis in Patients with Unstable Coronary Artery Disease

    Författare :Nina Johnston; Lars Wallentin; Tomas Jernberg; Agneta Siegbahn; Lena Jonasson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; myocardial infarction; unstable angina; oxidized low-density lipoprotein; renal function; prognosis; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : In patients with unstable coronary artery disease (CAD) biochemical markers are emerging as useful tools in clinical management. In this thesis we studied the use of markers of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation and renal function. LÄS MER
