  1. 21. Dietary Fatty Acids and Cardiometabolic Risk : Influence on Lipoproteins, Insulin Resistance and Liver Fat

    Författare :David Iggman; Ulf Risérus; Tommy Cederholm; Åke Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Linoleic acid; Palmitic acid; PUFA; SFA; n-6 fatty acids; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate how dietary fatty acids affect the risk for cardiometabolic disease, i.e. cardiovascular disease (CVD), type 2 diabetes and obesity. LÄS MER

  2. 22. A Healthy Nordic Diet and Cardiometabolic Risk Factors : Intervention Studies with Special Emphasis on Plasma Lipoproteins

    Författare :Viola Adamsson; Ulf Riserus; Tommy Cederholm; Margaretha Nydahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : A healthy diet is important in the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Several risk factors, modifiable by diet, are involved in the development of CVD, e.g. hyperlipidaemia, hyperglycaemia, insulin resistance, obesity and hypertension. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Triglyceride-rich lipoproteins : postprandial metabolism and composition in relation to atherosclerosis

    Författare :Johan Björkegren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :triglyceride-rich lipoproteins; very low density lipoproteins; chylomicrons; lipoprotein remnants; apolipoprotein E and C; cholesterol; atherosclerosis;

    Sammanfattning : A relationship between postprandial lipaemia and coronary heart disease (CHD) was established as early as the 1950s. Since then, most attention has been paid to postprandial triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) of intestinal origin, i.e. chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants, whereas TRLs of hepatic origin, i. 5. 25. Studies on cholesterol homeostasis by modulation of lipoproteins and bile acids

    Författare :Lisa-Mari Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cholesterol; lipoproteins; bile acids; cholestyramine; chenodeoxycholic acid; CYP7A1; HNF4alpha; PCSK9; hepatocytes; ethanol; atherosclerosis; ApoE; thyroid hormone receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Excess plasma cholesterol, in particular high levels of LDL cholesterol, is a major risk factor for the development of atherosclerosis. The liver has a central role in the regulation of cholesterol metabolism: i) a major part of the cholesterol present in the body is synthesized in the liver; ii) the level of plasma lipoproteins is regulated by liver uptake and secretion of these particles and iii) the liver is essential for elimination of cholesterol from the body as such or by its conversion into bile acids.
