  1. 1. Regulation of the hepatic ACAT2 expression and roles of HNF1alhpa and HNF4alpha in cholesterol metabolism

    Författare :Camilla Pramfalk; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :ACAT2; HNF; MODY; NPC1L1; SREBP; cholesterol metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : Acyl-Coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferases (ACATs) 1 and 2 are integral membrane proteins located in rough endoplasmatic reticulum that catalyzes the formation of cholesteryl esters (CEs) from cholesterol and long-chain fatty acids. ACAT1 is present in most tissues, whereas ACAT2 is confined to enterocytes and hepatocytes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Studies on cholesterol homeostasis by modulation of lipoproteins and bile acids

    Författare :Lisa-Mari Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cholesterol; lipoproteins; bile acids; cholestyramine; chenodeoxycholic acid; CYP7A1; HNF4alpha; PCSK9; hepatocytes; ethanol; atherosclerosis; ApoE; thyroid hormone receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Excess plasma cholesterol, in particular high levels of LDL cholesterol, is a major risk factor for the development of atherosclerosis. The liver has a central role in the regulation of cholesterol metabolism: i) a major part of the cholesterol present in the body is synthesized in the liver; ii) the level of plasma lipoproteins is regulated by liver uptake and secretion of these particles and iii) the liver is essential for elimination of cholesterol from the body as such or by its conversion into bile acids. 3. 3. Studies on cholesterol and bile acid metabolism in Chinese cholesterol gallstone patients

    Författare :Zhao-Yan Jiang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cholesterol gallstone disease; ABCG5 ABCG5; SRBI; ACAT2; Gender; Bile acids; Liver; Intestine;

    Sammanfattning : Liver and intestine are important organs for the metabolism of cholesterol and bile acids in the body. Dysfunction in cholesterol and bile acid metabolism may lead to diseases such as cholesterol gallstone (GS) disease and atherosclerosis. LÄS MER
