  1. 1. In vitro contracture testing for the diagnosis of malignant hyperthermia susceptibility

    Författare :Gunilla Islander; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; specificity; IVCT; Malignant hyperthermia susceptibility; skeletal muscle; inheritance pattern; sensitivity; reproducibility; intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : Malignant hyperthermia (MH) susceptibility is a rare inherited muscular disorder, which may cause a lethal increase in metabolism during anaesthesia with certain commonly used anaesthetic. Susceptible individuals are without any signs or symptoms. It is important to identify individuals at risk, since the MH reaction is preventable. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The circle of strength and power : Experiences of empowerment in intensive care

    Författare :Ingrid Wåhlin; Ewa Idvall; Anna-Christina Ek; Britt-Marie Ternestedt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Empowerment; Critical care; Experiences; Relationships; Work satisfaction; Patient; Family; Nurse; Physician; Comparison; Atmosphere; Quality of care; Interview; Intensive care; Intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : Patients and next of kin in intensive care often experience powerlessness, anxiety and distress and intensive care staff are repeatedly exposed to traumatic situations and demanding events. Empowerment has been described as a process of overcoming a sense of powerlessness and a model through which people may develop a sense of inner strength through connections with others. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Sedation during mechanical ventilation in intensive care - Sedation practices and patients' memories, stressful experiences and psychological distress

    Författare :Karin Samuelson; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intensive care unit; Mechanical ventilation; Patient comfort; intensive care; Anaesthesiology; intensivvård; Anestesiologi; Sedation; Respiratory nursing;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe and determine intensive care sedation in adult mechanically ventilated patients with the emphasis on patients? memory, stressful experiences and psychological distress. The results are based on a nationwide postal survey (Paper I) including 89 Swedish intensive care units (ICUs) followed by a prospective cohort study (Papers II?IV) conducted over 18 months in 2 ICUs including 313 mechanically ventilated adults admitted for more than 24 hours. 4. 4. Respiratory mechanics during mechanical ventilation in health and in disease

    Författare :Cecilia Svantesson; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Recruitment; Collapse; Overdistension; Viscoelasticity; Elastic pressure-volume curve; Respiratory disease; Health; Human; Rabbit; Positive end-expiratory pressure; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : The elastic pressure-volume (Pel-V) curve of the respiratory system can be used as a guide for improved ventilator management. It may indicate risks of lung damage associated with collapse or overdistension of lung units. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Risk-Adjustment for Swedish In-Hospital Trauma Mortality using International Classification of disease Injury Severity Score (ICISS) : issues with description and methods

    Författare :Robert Larsen; Folke Sjöberg; Ingrid Steinvall; Mats Fredrikson; Sten M. Walther; Søreide Eldar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : IntroductionDifferent methods have been used to describe the epidemiology of trauma with varying results. Crude mortality outcome data differ significantly from risk-adjusted information. A previous standard method for risk-adjustment in trauma was the Injury Severity Score (ISS), although it has several shortcomings. LÄS MER
