21. Induction of t-cell responses against PSA by plasmid DNA immunization
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on using plasmid DNA encoding human prostate-specific antigen (PSA) for immunotherapy of prostate cancer. PSA is a secreted serine protease, which is produced almost exclusively by prostate epithelial cells. LÄS MER
22. Concepts in DNA immunization overcoming viral diversity and enhancing plasmid immunogenicity
Sammanfattning : On April 23, 1984, the prominent scientist Robert Gallo held a historical press conference at the Department of Health and Human Services, Washington D.C., USA. He announced that his laboratory at the National Institutes of Health had over the last months isolated a retrovirus named Human T-cell Leukemia Virus type III (HTLV-III). LÄS MER
23. Immune monitoring in humans after manipulation by B cell depletion and immunization
Sammanfattning : The overall goal of this thesis was to study the influence of immunomodulatory drugs on the human immune system. The approach was bi-directional; ex vivo studies were performed after B cell depletion with rituximab treatment in patients with SLE and RA, and an in vivo assay was established to study effects of drugs on immune responsiveness. 24. Modulation of HIV immune responses in natural infection and after genetic immunization
Sammanfattning : Identification and treatment of HIV-1 infection are both urgent, in view of the continued spread of the infection. We developed easy and inexpensive serological methods for the diagnosis and follow-up of children born to HIV-1-infected mothers. A quantitative immunofluorescence method replaced the cumbersome Western blot. LÄS MER
25. New strategies to prevent fetal and neonatal complications in Rhesus D immunization
Sammanfattning : The general purpose of this thesis was to investigate if fetal and neonatal complications due to RhD immunization in the mother could be prevented by 1) reducing procedure-related complications in intrauterine blood transfusions and by 2) reducing the incidence of RhD immunization by providing routine antenatal anti-D prophylaxis during pregnancy selectively to non-immunized RhD negative women with RhD positive fetuses. Paper I was a retrospective study including 284 intrauterine transfusions in 84 women 1990-2010. LÄS MER
