  1. 6. Endogenous Nitric Oxide Production and Pulmonary Blood Flow : during different experimental lung conditions

    Författare :Manja Nilsson; Filip Fredén; Kristina Hambraeus-Jonzon; Göran Hedenstierna; Eddie Weitzberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nitric oxide; pulmonary blood flow; endotoxin; nitric oxide inhalation; endothelin; hypercapnia; acidosis; lavage-induced lung injury; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is an important regulator of pulmonary blood flow and attenuates hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV). Nitric oxide is synthesized enzymatically in a number of tissues, including the lungs, and can also be generated from reduction of nitrite during hypoxia and acidosis. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Regional pulmonary vasoreactivity, with special reference to nitric oxide, prostacyclin and body posture

    Författare :Danguolé Rimeika; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Regional pulmonary perfusion; nitric oxide; prostacyclin; NOS-inhibition; COX-inhibition; shunt; one-lung ventilation;

    Sammanfattning : The primary aim of the study was to investigate possible mechanisms behind the improved arterial oxygenation in ventilator-treated patients with acute lung injury (ALI) or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) when turned into prone position. A secondary aim was to discover new knowledge of possible importance for treatment of patients with oxygenation problems in intensive care and during anesthesia. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Development of Methods to Investigate Pulmonary Arterial Smooth Muscle Cells under Hypoxia

    Författare :Joel Wahl; Kerstin Ramser; Mikael Sjödahl; Fredrik Nikolajeff; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Experimental Mechanics; Experimentell mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV) is a physiological response to localized alveolarhypoxia that is intrinsic to the pulmonary circulation. By hypoxia-induced contractionof pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs), the pulmonary capillary bloodflow is redirected to alveolar areas of high oxygen partial pressure, thus maintaining theventilation-perfusion ratio. 4. 9. Multimodal applications in medical technology that utilize Raman spectroscopy

    Författare :Joel Wahl; Kerstin Ramser; Mikael Sjödahl; Thomas Bocklitz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Raman spectroscopy; Preprocessing; Pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells; Brain tumors; Experimental Mechanics; Experimentell mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : Biology can often be explained by structures and interactions between molecules. It is therefore of importance for medical sciences that the chemical reactions and molecular compositions of biological samples can be measured. The purpose of this thesis is twofold. LÄS MER

  5. 10. The Effect of CO2-Pneumoperitoneum on Ventilation Perfusion Distribution of the Lung

    Författare :Christof Strang; Göran Hedenstierna; Suzanne Odeberg-Wernerman; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Laparoscopic operations are a common and popular way for abdominal procedures. They are usually performed by insufflation of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the abdominal cavity. However, insufflation of CO2 may interfere with cardiac and circulatory as well as respiratory functions. The CO2-pneumoperitoneum (PP) may cause hypercarbia and acidosis. LÄS MER
