36. Chronic bone marrow failure and transfusion patterns : epidemiological studies of blood transfusions and outcomes in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes
Sammanfattning : Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) encompass a diverse group of clonal hematological malignancies characterized by dysplasia and ineffective hematopoiesis with an increased risk of leukemic evolution. It is a disease of the elderly with a median age of nearly 75 years. LÄS MER
37. The role of CD30 in atopic allergy
Sammanfattning : The 120 kDa CD30 molecule belongs to the tumour necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily and is expressed by activated lymphoid cells. Small populations of CD30+ cells have been detected in the peripheral lymphoid organs, as well as in the thymus. A subset of CD45RO+, so-called memory T cells, also express CD30 after various kind of stimuli. LÄS MER
38. Immune responses against tumors controlled by the actin cytoskeleton : lessons from primary immunodeficiencies
Sammanfattning : The actin cytoskeleton and its regulators are vital for cellular processes such as cell motility and immune synapse formation. In this study, the aim was to dissect the role of two of those regulators, WASp and MKL1, in immune cells and their role in tumorigenesis. LÄS MER
39. Cancer and male reproductive function- the effect on sperm DNA integrity and on birth outcomes in the offspring
Sammanfattning : Male cancer survivors (MCS) are at risk of suffering from impaired fertility. Male fertility is dependant on sperm DNA quality. The Sperm Chromatin Structure Assay (SCSA) reflects the proportion of sperm with poor DNA, the DNA fragmentation index, DFI. LÄS MER
40. Long-term outcome of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus with special reference to cardiovascular disease
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to assess the long-term prognosis in terms of mortality, especially from cardiovascular disease, in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). By using the population based Swedish health care registries, large cohorts with patients with RA and SLE were identified in the nationwide Hospital Discharge Register from 1964 to 1994. LÄS MER
