  1. 1. Heathlands – A Lost World?

    Författare :Mattias Lindholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heathland; Calluna vulgaris; Conservation biology; Management; Coleoptera; Carabidae; Lycosidae; Conservation strategy;

    Sammanfattning : Heathland is a familiar landscape type in southwest Sweden. It is open with few trees, and the vegetation is dominated by dwarf-shrubs growing on nutrient-poor soils. Dry heaths with Heather Calluna vulgaris and wet heaths with Bell Heather Erica tetralix are common vegetation communities in the heathland, and they often form mosaics. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Fire and grazing in subalpine heathlands and forests of Bale Mountains, Ethiopia : fire ecology and traditional use of fire

    Författare :Maria Johansson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Pastoralists frequently depend on fire to produce forage for their livestock, but traditional burning is often banned, despite being essential for livelihoods and ecosystem maintenance. In the subalpine heathlands of Bale Mountains traditional fire management is still practiced. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Carbon stocks and fluxes in a young Siberian larch (Larix sibirica) plantation in Iceland

    Författare :Brynhildur Bjarnadottir; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; interannual variability; carbon balance; Larix sibirica; afforestation; stock-change method; carbon sequestration; eddy covariance; biomass functions;

    Sammanfattning : The understanding of how forests function with respect to carbon (C) balance and its interaction with the climate system is a fundamental question in climate change research. Another important question is how large the sink for CO2 is in northern forests and how it varies with forest type, management, stand age and with external factors, such as climate variability.
