6. Searching for Gamma Rays from Galaxy Clusters with the Fermi Large Area Telescope : Cosmic Rays and Dark Matter
Sammanfattning : In this licentiate thesis, I report a search for GeV γ rays towards the location of Galaxy clusters. I mainly discuss the results of a search for cosmic-ray (CR) induced γ-ray emission but also briefly elaborate on a related study, searching for Dark Matter (DM)-induced γ-ray emission from Galaxy clusters. 7. Large Eddy Simulation of Complex Turbulent Flows
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the Large Eddy Simulation methodology and its application to predict complex turbulent flows at high Reynolds numbers, and at times also with high Mach numbers. The meaning of the word ?complex? refers both to the presence of complex flow phenomena and the, often, complex geometry of man-made devices restricting the flow. LÄS MER
8. VLF and ULF Waves Associated with Magnetospheric Substorms
Sammanfattning : A magnetospheric substorm is manifested in a variety of phenomena observed both in space and on the ground. Two electromagnetic signatures are the Substorm Chorus Event (SCE) and Pi2 pulsations. The SCE is a Very Low Frequency (VLF) radio phenomenon observed on the ground after the onset of the substorm expansion phase. LÄS MER
9. Alkali Uptake and Release from Oxygen Carriers in Chemical Looping Applications: Development and Application of Reactor Systems and Measurement Techniques
Sammanfattning : Chemical looping combustion (CLC) of biomass is a heat and power generation technology with minimal associated costs for carbon capture, potentially resulting in negative CO2 emissions. The CLC technology utilizes fluidized beds of oxygen carrier (OC) particles to separate CO2 from the combustion air. LÄS MER
10. Turbulent and neoclassical transport in tokamak plasmas
Sammanfattning : One of the greatest challenges of thermonuclear fusion is to understand, predict and to some extent control particle and energy transport in fusion plasmas. In the present thesis we consider theoretical and experimental aspects of collisional and turbulent transport in tokamak plasmas. LÄS MER
