  1. 11. Long bone growth and evolution revealed by three-dimensional imaging

    Författare :Jordi Estefa; Sophie Sanchez; Per Ahlberg; Holly Woodward; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 3D histology; hematopoiesis; humerus; tetrapods; Biologi; Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Propagation phase-contrast synchrotron radiation microtomography is a non-destructive method used for studying histology in three dimensions (3D). Using it, the 3D organization of the diaphyseal cortical vascularization in the humerus of two seymouriamorphs was analyzed in this thesis. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Function and Evolution of Small Regulatory RNAs and their Associated Proteins : A Journey from Genome to Proteome

    Författare :Bart Edelbroek; Fredrik Söderbom; Jonathan R. Chubb; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Organisms throughout the tree of life have evolved distinct ways to regulate gene expression. Some of these processes involve non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), which are not translated but functional nonetheless. These ncRNAs are of utmost importance, with dysregulation of some causing severe developmental effects or even being lethal. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Female coloration, egg carotenoids and reproductive success: gobies as a model system

    Författare :P. Andreas Svensson; Trond Amundsen; Jonathan Blount; Trondheim NTNU Department of Biology; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Evolutionary Biology; Evolutionsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In two-spotted gobies (Gobiusculus flavescens), females develop an orange belly as they approach sexual maturity. Toward the end of the single breeding season, males become rare and females compete for spawnings. Nest-holding males then prefer females with more colourful bellies and this trait has been suggested to act as a female ornament. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Systems Biology of the Secondary Metabolism in Filamentous Fungi

    Författare :Jens Christian Froslev Nielsen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genomics; systems biology; secondary metabolites; antibiotics; Next-generation sequencing; secondary metabolism; filamentous fungi; cell factories; Penicillium;

    Sammanfattning : Filamentous fungi constitute a rich reservoir of pharmaceutically relevant bioactive small molecules. These compounds, commonly referred to as secondary metabolites, are widely used as antibiotics for the treatment of microbial infections, but also as other pharmaceuticals such as immunosuppressors, cholesterol lowering agents and anticancer drugs.
