1. Theoretical Investigations of the Role of Ion-Ion Correlations and Ion-Specific Interactions in Electric Double Layers
Sammanfattning : Electric double layers are ubiquitous, arising in some form in almost every situation involving an interface with an aqueous electrolyte solution. In order to gain insight into the behavior of electrolytes and electric double layers, simple models of bulk and inhomogeneous electrolyte solutions are considered in this thesis. LÄS MER
2. Operating Organic Electronics via Aqueous Electric Double Layers
Sammanfattning : The field of organic electronics emerged in the 1970s with the discovery of conducting polymers. With the introduction of plastics as conductors and semiconductors came many new possibilities both in production and function of electronic devices. LÄS MER
3. Plasma oscillations exited by electric double layers and electron beams

4. Interfacial properties of calcium montmorillonite in aqueous solutions : Density functional theory and classical molecular dynamics studies on the electric double layer
Sammanfattning : The swelling properties of Bentonite are highly affected by clay content and the clay-water interactions that arise from the ion distribution in the diffuse double layer formed near the charged montmorillonite (or smectite) surfaces. Existing continuum models describing the electric double layers, such as classical Poisson-Boltzmann and DLVO theory, ignore the ion-ion correlations, which are especially important for multivalent ions at high surface charge and ionic strength. 5. Theoretical Investigation of the Effect of Interface Dielectric Properties on Electric Double Layer Interactions
Sammanfattning : Results for a simple model of interacting electric double layers are presented for the geometry of two parallel planar walls. The wall and solution media are described as dielectric continua, characterized by their frequency dependent dielectric functions. LÄS MER
