  1. 16. Children with congenital unilateral sensorineural hearing loss : etiology, newborn diagnostics, and hearing aid amplification

    Författare :Marlin Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Congenital unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (uSNHL) comprises about 25% of the sensorineural hearing losses (SNHLs) found through newborn hearing screening (NHS) programs. Even if children with congenital uSNHL struggle in school and everyday listening situations, studies on etiology, hearing aid (HA) outcomes and intervention are few, so it is still unknown when and how intervention is optimally provided. 2. 17. Multifunctional nanomaterials for diagnostic and therapeutic applications

    Författare :Andrea Fornara; Mamoun Muhammed; Patrick Saulnier; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : In the past few years, the use of nanostructured materials in medical applications hasdramatically increased, both in the research phase and for clinical purposes, due to thepeculiar properties and the ability of such materials to interact at a similar scale withbiological entities. In this thesis, we developed tailored magnetic multifunctionalnanoparticles for diagnostic and therapeutic applications, such as detection ofbiomolecules, simultaneous enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fluorescentvisualization and controlled drug release. 3. 18. Cognition in multiple sclerosis with special emphasis on MRI findings and cerebrosterol

    Författare :Gösta Bergendal; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a progressive inflammatory and degenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS). This thesis focuses on cognition in MS, with special emphasis on long-term magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings and cerebrosterol plasma levels. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Exceptional fossil preservation: implications for palaeobiology and taphonomy

    Författare :Miriam Heingård; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exceptional preservation; molecular palaeontology; palaeobiology; taphonomy; braincase; cuticle; fish larvae; Fur Formation; Stolleklint Clay; melanin; systematics;

    Sammanfattning : Although fossils are relatively common in some sedimentary deposits, the majority consists of fragmented or distorted skeletal hard parts (such as shell and bones). However, in rare cases, special burial and diagenetic conditions have allowed a greater portion of the original anatomy to be incorporated into the fossil record. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Topography of auditory evoked cortical potentials in children with severe language impairment

    Författare :Inger Tonnquist-Uhlén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Auditory evoked potentials - Brain map - Topography - Child - Languageimpairment - Auditory perceptual disorders;

    Sammanfattning : Development of normal speech and language functions is closely related to normal hearing. However, most children with delayed or disturbed speech development show normal tone thresholds and here the investigation has to include higher levels in the auditory system. LÄS MER
