  1. 1. Molecular, micro- and ultrastructural investigations of labile tissues in deep time

    Författare :Johan Gren; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; eumelanin; fossils; histology; integument; IR microspectroscopy; melanin; melanosomes; molecular palaeontology; ToF-SIMS; XAS;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis comprises investigations of microstructures and molecular remains, preserved in a variety of fossil specimens. The results are presented in six papers, collectively aiming to thoroughly examine fossil traces of such remains by employing a combination of both established and relatively new analytical methods. 2. 2. Exceptional fossil preservation: implications for palaeobiology and taphonomy

    Författare :Miriam Heingård; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exceptional preservation; molecular palaeontology; palaeobiology; taphonomy; braincase; cuticle; fish larvae; Fur Formation; Stolleklint Clay; melanin; systematics;

    Sammanfattning : Although fossils are relatively common in some sedimentary deposits, the majority consists of fragmented or distorted skeletal hard parts (such as shell and bones). However, in rare cases, special burial and diagenetic conditions have allowed a greater portion of the original anatomy to be incorporated into the fossil record. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Single-cell RNA sequencing provides novel insights into spider development and represents an innovative alternative to study the evolution and development of panarthropods

    Författare :Brenda Irene Medina-Jiménez; Ralf Janssen; Graham Budd; Angelika Stollewerk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; panarthropod; spider embryo; single-cell RNA sequencing; EvoDevo; candidate gene approach; gene expression; cluster marker; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi; Earth Science with specialization in Historical Geology and Palaeontology; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot historisk geologi och paleontologi;

    Sammanfattning : Panarthropoda is a monophyletic group of invertebrate animals with a segmented body, paired appendages, dorsal brain, and ventral nerve cords. In order to study the mechanisms underpining their evolution, I study the genetic factors that drive their development. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Evolutionary Progression of the Iconic Australasian Kangaroos, Rat-Kangaroos, and their Fossil Relatives (Marsupialia: Macropodiformes)

    Författare :Wendy den Boer; Benjamin Kear; Christine Janis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; macropodiforms; kangaroos; rat-kangaroos; fossil ancestors; post-cranial; eco-morphology; systematic; phylogeny; Earth Science with specialization in Historical Geology and Palaeontology; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot historisk geologi och paleontologi;

    Sammanfattning : The exceptionally diverse macropodiform’s (kangaroos, rat-kangaroos and their fossil allies) currently have a fossil record that spans from the late Oligocene to the Holocene with an Australasian widespread fossil occurence. The origins of the macropodiforms are believed to have been during the Eocene possibly having split from the Phalangeridae. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Origin and Lifestyles of early Brachiopods and other Lophotrochozoans : Insights from the Chengjiang and Guanshan Fossil-Lagerstätten

    Författare :Haizhou Wang; Lars E. Holmer; Zhifei Zhang; Michael Streng; David A.T. Harper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cambrian Explosion; Chengjiang; Guanshan; Lagerstätten; Lophotrochozoa; Brachiopoda; Earth Science with specialization in Historical Geology and Palaeontology; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot historisk geologi och paleontologi;

    Sammanfattning : One of the great unsolved evolutionary questions concerns the origin and phylogeny of the major animal phyla that appeared in the fossil record more than 540 million years ago, during the Cambrian explosion. Although new molecular information has been very useful, we still have little understanding about the origin of most of the phyla of bilaterians living today. LÄS MER
