  1. 1. Exceptional fossil preservation: implications for palaeobiology and taphonomy

    Författare :Miriam Heingård; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exceptional preservation; molecular palaeontology; palaeobiology; taphonomy; braincase; cuticle; fish larvae; Fur Formation; Stolleklint Clay; melanin; systematics;

    Sammanfattning : Although fossils are relatively common in some sedimentary deposits, the majority consists of fragmented or distorted skeletal hard parts (such as shell and bones). However, in rare cases, special burial and diagenetic conditions have allowed a greater portion of the original anatomy to be incorporated into the fossil record. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The braincase of Youngolepis, a Lower Devonian crossopterygian from Yunnan, south-western China

    Författare :Mee-mann Chang; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fiskar; Paleozoologi;

    Sammanfattning : The endocranium and skull roof of Youngolepis, a Lower Devonian crossopterygian from south-western China, is described based on some 40 specimens of which one was investigated by serial grinding. In cranial structure Youngolepis Chang et Yu, 1981, shows affinity to Powichthys Jessen, 1975, from the Lower Devonian of the Canadian Arctic. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Endocranial Morphology and Phylogeny of Palaeozoic Gnathostomes (Jawed Vertebrates)

    Författare :Martin D. Brazeau; Per Ahlberg; Graham Budd; Henning Blom; Michael Coates; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; systematics; palaeontology; anatomy; evolution; Organism biology; Organismbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Gnathostomes, or jawed vertebrates, make up the overwhelming majority of modern vertebrate diversity. Among living vertebrates, they comprise the chondrichthyans (“cartilaginous fishes” such as sharks, skates, rays, chimaeras) and the osteichthyans (“bony fishes” or bony vertebrates, inclusive of tetrapods).
