31. High Performance Bio-based Composites : Mechanical and Environmental Durability
Sammanfattning : The presented work is a part of the ongoing effort on the development of high performance bio-based composites with enhanced durability, under static and dynamic mechanical loading including the exposure to elevated humidity. The impact of relative humidity on the performance of cellulosic fibers (natural and regenerated), bio-based resins and their composites was studied. LÄS MER
32. A study of wood adhesion and interactions using DMTA
Sammanfattning : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate whether the adhesion of glues and lacquers to wood could be studied using dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). This method has been widely used to study interactions in polymer blends, copolymers and in polymeric composites but very few investigations had been done on solid wood. LÄS MER
33. Lithium Ion Conductive Membranes Based on Co-continuous Polymer Blends
Sammanfattning : There is a growing need for multifunctional polymeric materials for the development of several important energy conversion technologies. For example, the polymer electrolyte is a key component in lithium polymer batteries. The basic functions of this electrolyte are to efficiently conduct the lithium ions and physically separate the electrodes. LÄS MER
34. Processing and Properties of Nanostructured Biocomposites
Sammanfattning : In this work, nanostructured biocomposite fibers and films with cellulose nanofibers (CNF), cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) and chitin nanocrystals (ChNC) were prepared using solutions mixing followed by electrospinning and melt compounding. The main processing challenges for these materials were to find parameters for: 1) fiber alignment in electrospinning, 2) feeding the nanomaterials into the extruder and 3) dispersion and distribution of the nanomaterials in the polymeric matrix. 35. Interactions between Wood Polymers in Wood Cell Walls and Cellulose/Hemicellulose Biocomposites
Sammanfattning : A wood fibre is a complex multi component biocomposite that is hierarchically organised. The arrangement of a wood fibre on the ultrastructural level is highlycontrolled by the interactions between the main structural polymers, i.e. cellulose, various hemicelluloses and lignin, as well as in some parts also pectin and protein.
