1. First-principles calculations of polymer interactions
Sammanfattning : This thesis reports on studies of interactions in sparse matter by first-principles calculations, in particular polymeric systems. The focus is on the three unbranched simple polymers: polyethylene (PE), isotactic polypropylene (PP) and isotactic polyvinylchloride (PVC), which together represent an important class of materials that form complexes stabilized by weak but long-range dispersive interactions. 2. Interactions Between Water and Cellulose Esters
Sammanfattning : Biopolymers, which are produced from natural sources, are gaining interest as a potential replacement for fossil-based polymers. As such, they are already widely used in several industries, including the food, healthcare, and personal care industries. LÄS MER
3. An Investigation of Mixed Cellulose Esters and Acyclic Polyacetates: Effects of Side-Chain Lengths and Degrees of Ring-Opening
Sammanfattning : Bio-based polymers produced from natural sources are gaining an increased interest as potential replacement for today’s conventional fossil-based plastic polymers. Their use is already wide in many large-scale industrial areas such as healthcare, personal care, and food. LÄS MER
4. Lignin-Based Thermosets with Tunable Mechanical and Morphological Properties : A Study of Structure-Property Relationships
Sammanfattning : Nowadays, there is an urgent need to decrease our dependence on fossilresources and shift towards the use of renewable resources for advancingsustainable development. Utilizing renewable and bio-based raw materials, such as lignocellulosic biomass, for designing new materials is a promisingapproach to promote this objective. LÄS MER
5. Water-assisted mixing and compression moulding of ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer reinforced with nano-cellulose
Sammanfattning : The concerns regarding aspects of global warming, depleting oil resources, accumulation of plastics in landfills has served as motivation to move towards utilizing sustainable and renewable resources to fulfil our needs. In the present work, the reinforcing capabilities of cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and modified/unmodified cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) based composites prepared through water-assisted mixing, drying and compression moulding was explored.
