21. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, aspects of graft choice, graft fixation and bone mineral loss
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to measure bone mineral changes in the calcanei, hips and lumbar spine of patients reconstructed with bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) or hamstring tendon (HT) autografts following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Furthermore, the aim was to compare the clinical results after ACL revision reconstruction with either reharvested ipsilateral or contralateral BPTB autografts. LÄS MER
22. Radiation dose-, contrast media- and image quality optimization in computed tomography
Sammanfattning : Computed tomography (CT) was introduced to medicine in the early 1970s, which brought slice imaging into wide use for the first time. Today, CT is an essential part of radiological diagnostics, and is used for a wide range of clinical applications. One downside of CT imaging is the health risks related to the ionizing radiation. 23. Dietary intake, nutritional status and energy metabolism in individuals with anorexia nervosa - Effects of specialized eating disorder hospital treatment
Sammanfattning : Objective: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a life-threatening condition affecting around 1% of the population. The aim of this thesis was to study nutritional aspects before and after specialized eating disorder hospital treatment of AN in adolescents and young adults. Methods: Data on 43 female patients was collected and used. LÄS MER
24. Rheumatoid Arthritis: Body Composition, Bone Loss, and Mortality
Sammanfattning : Early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients (disease duration ≤1 year, n=165) were recruited 1995-2001 and followed systematically clinically and with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) over 2 years and compared to age- and gender-matched controls. Baseline arm and leg lean mass were decreased in RA patients in both genders and body mass index and truncal fat distribution were increased in female RA patients. LÄS MER
25. Effects on cardiac output distribution of propranolol, verapamil and epidural blockade during continuous positive-pressure ventilation : An experimental study in the pig
Sammanfattning : The blood perfusion of all body regions is governed by local vasoregulation, and systemic humoral and neural impulses provide additional tuning of vascular tone. Is the regulation of circulation centralised or, in other words, is the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) superior to local autoregulation of the perfusion of vital organs? Using the microsphere method and acquired data on the body composition of the pig, it was possible to interpret the absolute distribution of cardiac output (CO) and flux changes between organs and tissues.
