  1. 1. Metabolomics, body composition and fracture

    Författare :Rui Zheng; Karl Michaëlsson; Harri Sievänen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metabolomics; LC-MS; sample quality; cohort; body composition; fracture; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I evaluated the impact of pre-centrifugation sample management on the plasma metabolome, providing verification for the protocol used in a study where I applied metabolomics to better understand the role of body composition in fracture occurrence using a large population-based cohort.  In paper 1, I applied untargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) metabolomics analysis to plasma samples (n = 471) from healthy donors to predict and evaluate the effect of pre-centrifugation temperature and delay time on metabolomics data using a combination of random forest and generalized linear models. 2. 2. Human body composition. Reference data and anthropometric equations. The metabolic syndrome and risk

    Författare :Ingrid Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adults; anthropometry; atherosclerotic morbidity; body composition; body fat; cardiovascular disease; DEXA; dual energy x-ray absorptiometry; fat-free mass; FFM; humans; metabolic syndrome; morbidity; mortality; prediction equations; randomly selected sample; reference data; sagittal trunk diameter; TBK; total body potassium; waist circumference;

    Sammanfattning : The determination of body composition is a key to the understanding of the relation between obesity and disease. In order to evaluate body composition data, reference values are needed. Since methods with high validity and reproducibility are expensive and often time consuming, simpler techniques based on anthropometry are needed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Assessment of Body Composition Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Författare :Joel Kullberg; Hans Frimmel; Tomas Gustavsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Bildanalys; Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Digital Image Processing; Segmentation; Morphology; Body Composition; Whole Body Imaging; Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue; Visceral Adipose Tissue; Anthropometry; Bildanalys;

    Sammanfattning : Methods for assessment of body composition allow studies of the complex relationships between body composition and the wellbeing of humans. The amount and distribution of adipose tissue is of great importance in these studies. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Image-based multi-omics data integration : Exploring whole-body PET/MRI, -omics data and body composition

    Författare :Robin Visvanathar; Håkan Ahlström; Joel Kullberg; Jan Eriksson; Katrine Riklund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Body composition; Imiomics; genomics; metabolomics; MRI; PET; insulin sensitivity; T2D;

    Sammanfattning : Advanced body composition analysis with whole-body imaging could uncover novel associations between regional tissue composition and metabolic disease. Imiomics is an automated image analysis framework that enables large-scale integration of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data and orthogonal technologies such as metabolomics and genomics for the detailed study of body composition. 5. 5. Effects of early probiotic supplementation in a pediatric setting : Focus on body composition, metabolism and inflammation

    Författare :Frida Karlsson Videhult; Christina E West; Olle Hernell; Inger Öhlund; Velmurugesan Arulampalam; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lactobacillus paracasei ssp. paracasei F19; infants; children; growth; body composition; metabolism; follow-up; Pediatrics; pediatrik;

    Sammanfattning : We aimed to determine the short- and long-term effects on growth, body composition, metabolic and inflammatory markers following supplementation with the probiotic Lactobacillus paracasei ssp. paracasei F19 (LF19) during weaning. LÄS MER
