17. Studies on Peripheral Nerve Regeneration: Microdispensing, Neurite Guidance and Galectins
Sammanfattning : The present thesis describes development of a microdispenser-based technique to create of protein patterns for neurite guidance. The same technique was also developed to allow direct positioning of dissociated cells, including neurons, on cell culture substrates. Finally the role of galectin-3 and 8 during nerve regeneration was investigated. LÄS MER
18. On cholecystokinin-opioid interaction in the spinal dorsal horn following peripheral nerve injury and inflammation
Sammanfattning : The peptide cholecystokinin (CCK) antagonizes opioid-induced analgesia. Conversely, antagonists of CCK receptors enhance the analgesic effect of opioids. Together, these results support a role for CCK as an anti-opioid peptide in pain mechanisms. LÄS MER
19. Neuropeptide release in the rat dorsal horn in models of persistent pain : effects of opioids
Sammanfattning : Nerve injury and tissue inflammation may lead to exaggerated responses to both noxious stimuli (hyperalgesia) and innocuous stimuli (allodynia). Altered release pattems of neurotransmitters in the dorsal hom of the spinal cord have been suggested to contribute to hyperalgesia and allodynia. LÄS MER
20. Effects of nucleus pulposus on nerve root circulation and function. Morphologic and functional studies in an experimental model using porcine spinal nerve roots
Sammanfattning : Sciatica due to lumbar disc herniation has for many decades been viewed as a consequence of mechanical compression exerted on spinal nerve roots by the bulging disc tissues. Recent research has, however, indicated that extruded nucleus pulposus (NP) from the intervertebral disc might cause functional and endoneurial morphological changes in spinal nerve roots, without mechanical compression.
