7. Genome sequencing. Analysis of pathogenicity factors in hereditary and bacterial diseases
Sammanfattning : With a metal removal process based on precipitation aimed atthe purification of pulping effluent as a starting point, theinfluence of carboxylic acids on calcium carbonateprecipitation has been studied. The chosen carboxylic acids canact as more or less strong complexing agents for aqueouscalcium, just as many compounds found in pulping liquors. LÄS MER
8. DNA Electrophoresis: Optical Probing and Microscopic Imaging to Understand Separation Mechanisms
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to combine spectroscopic, mobility, and fluorescence microscopy studies to elucidate the mechanisms behind DNA electrophoresis, a method to separate DNA molecules according to size. The microscopy studies require staining of the DNA with a fluorescent dye. LÄS MER
9. DNA-Photosensitization by New Drugs for Photoinactivation of Viruses and Phototherapy of Tumors
Sammanfattning : Cyanines and pyropheophorbides are two classes of photoactivable dyes which are particularly interesting for photosterilization of blood used in transfusion and for treatment of localised cancers by photodynamic therapy (PDT). After a bibliographic review about the principal mechanisms of DNA photosensitization, studies about the photosensitizing properties of these two families of compounds are presented. LÄS MER
10. DNA Electrophoresis in Polymer Solutions. Separation Mechanisms studied by Fluorescence and Linear Dichroism Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Capillary electrophoresis of DNA in polymer solutions is a promising technique for separation of DNA molecules according to size. The primary aim of the work presented in this thesis was to get a better understanding of the electrophoretic separation mechanism in these media by studying the DNA migration behavior during electrophoresis in both entangled and non-entangled polymer solutions using linear dichroism spectroscopy and fluorescence video microscopy.
