  1. 21. Studies of amyloid precursor protein trafficking and processing

    Författare :Shaohua Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of neurodegenerative disease that slowly impairs memory and thinking abilities. Abnormal accumulation and aggregation of amyloid β peptides (Aβ), derived from proteolytic cleavage of the amyloid precursor protein (APP), is thought to be one of the critical triggers in the pathogenesis. 2. 22. Analysis of deep brain stimulation and ablative lesions in surgical treatment of movement disorders : with emphasis on safety aspects

    Författare :Patric Blomstedt; Bengt Linderoth; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; deep brain stimulation; pallidotomy; thalamotomy; complications; Parkinson s disease; essential tremor; Clinical Neurophysiology; klinisk neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background The last decade has witnessed a renaissance of functional stereotactic neurosurgery in the treatment of patients with movement disorders, especially advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD), essential tremor (ET) and dystonia. Ablative lesions such as thalamotomy and pallidotomy have been gradually replaced by the technique of chronic deep brain stimulation (DBS) applied to targets in the basal ganglia and thalamus, and assumed to be more lenient to the brain than stereotactic radiofrequency lesions. 3. 23. Essays on behavioral economics and policy design

    Författare :Mónica Marcela Jaime Torres; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Spillover effects; Social information; Randomized evaluation; Social norms; Peer effects; Water utilities; Common Agricultural Policy; Micro-analysis of farm firms; Panel data models; Subsidy decoupling;

    Sammanfattning : Chapter 1: Social norms and information diffusion in water-saving programs: Evidence from a randomized field experiment in Colombia This paper investigates spillover effects of a social information campaign aimed at encouraging residential water savings in Colombia. The campaign was organized as a randomized field experiment, consisting of monthly delivery of consumption reports, including normative messages, for one year. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Learning ecosystem complexity : A study on small-scale fishers’ ecological knowledge generation

    Författare :Diana Garavito-Bermúdez; Camilla Thunborg; Cecilia Lundholm; Beatrice Crona; Alan Reid; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; small-scale fishers; informal learning; knowledge generation; systems thinking; ecological knowledge; ecosystem complexity; work practices; emotional bonds to place; sustainable fisheries management; environmental learning; Vättern; Blekinge; Baltic Sea.; pedagogik; Education;

    Sammanfattning : Small-scale fisheries are learning contexts of importance for generating, transferring, and updating ecological knowledge of natural environments through everyday work practices. The rich knowledge fishers have of local ecosystems is the result of the intimate relationship fishing communities have had with their natural environments across generations (see e. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Deep brain stimulation in obsessive-compulsive disorder

    Författare :Matilda Naesström; Owe Bodlund; Patric Blomstedt; Johan Eriksson; Lotta M. J. Strömsten; Ellinor Salander Renberg; Keith Matthews; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; deep brain stimulation DBS ; obsessive-compulsive disorder OCD ; psykiatri; Psychiatry;

    Sammanfattning : Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is under investigation for severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) resistant to other therapies. As a crucial part of the anxiety circuit in the brain, the bed nucleus of stria terminalis (BNST) has been proposed as a target for DBS in OCD. LÄS MER
