  1. 11. Bioprocess development for biochemical conversion of lignocellulose

    Författare :Ruifei Wang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lignocellulose; strain engineering; stress tolerance; kinetic modelling; high gravity; scale-up; biofuels; SSCF; process development; Saccharomyces cerevisiae;

    Sammanfattning : Due to its low environmental impact and high maturity of the fuel ethanol market, lignocellulosic ethanol is a promising option for reducing the carbon footprint in the transport sector. The characteristics of lignocellulosic feedstocks, such as varied sugar composition, low sugar density, low solubility, recalcitrance to enzymatic degradation, and inhibitors formed during thermochemical pretreatment, have so far limited the production process, and costs for conversion of lignocellulosic materials to ethanol are still high. Författare :Marie Linde; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Carbochemistry; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; Barley straw; Wheat straw; DDGS; Fermentation; SSF; Enzymatic hydrolysis; H2SO4; Ethanol production; Steam pretreatment; petrochemistry; fuels and explosives technology; Petrokemi; bränslen; sprängämnen; Wood; pulp and paper technology; Pappers- och massateknik; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Bioethanol has received increasing attention as an alternative to petrol due to the current dependency on supplies from other countries and due to the increased concentration of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In this thesis, the development of 2nd generation production processes for bioethanol production from the lignocellulosic part of biomass is discussed. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Lactic acid bacteria fermentations in oat-based suspensions

    Författare :Olof Mårtensson; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; beta-glucans; probiotics; prebiotics; bacterial survival; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; oats; ropiness; lactic acid bacteria; ropy;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the fermentation characteristics of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in oat-based suspensions, with formulation work of fermented products based on oat and with nutritional studies of these products. Changes in structure in terms of viscosity and ropiness were studied when exopolysaccharide (EPS)-producing LAB strains, namely, Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. LÄS MER
