36. The B lymphocyte in Staphylococcus aureus arthritis
Sammanfattning : Joint infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus leads to heavy synovitis and rapid destruction of bone and cartilage. Permanent loss of joint function is seen in 20-50% of the patients, despite early eradication of the bacteria with antibiotics. LÄS MER
37. Bird-parasite interactions : Using Sindbis virus as a model system
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the evolutionary interactions between birds and a parasite, the mosquito-borne Sindbis virus (Togaviridae, Alphavirus). In conclusion, the results show that the Sindbis virus is widespread among birds, and that the fitness of infected hosts may be reduced by the virus. LÄS MER
38. Turnover of chylomicrons in the rat
Sammanfattning : Mechanisms involved in the clearance of chylomicrons and aspects of the interactions at the vascular endothelium were studied in the rat.The poly-anion heparin, known to release lipoprotein lipase (LPL) from the vascular endothelium, enhanced the clearance of chylomicrons. LÄS MER
39. The pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of clevidipine, a new ultrashort-acting calcium antagonist, in different animal species and man
Sammanfattning : Clevidipine is a new ultrashort-acting calcium antagonist of the dihydropyridine type developed for reduction and control of blood pressure in connection with cardiac surgery. The aim of this thesis was to characterise the in vitro hydrolysis rate of clevidipine in different biological matrices and the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in animal species and various human populations. 40. Monitoring cystic fibrosis lung disease in children - Clinical utility and associations between functional and structural methods
Sammanfattning : Background: Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an inherited progressive disease that causes severe damage to the airways and other organs of the body. Many methods are available to track CF lung disease but longitudinal data are needed to better understand the clinical utility and associations between different methods. LÄS MER
