1. Image Quality Optimisation and Dose Management in CT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT
Sammanfattning : The significant increase in the use of CT, alone or combined with SPECT or PET, has raised concerns about patient radiation exposure and the consequent increased risk of malignancy later in life. The overall objective of this work was to evaluate and optimise different approaches for minimising patient radiation absorbed dose and maintaining or improving image quality in CT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT. 2. Detection of pulmonary nodules in chest tomosynthesis: Comparison with chest radiography, evaluation of learning effects and investigation of radiation dose level dependency
Sammanfattning : Chest tomosynthesis is a relatively recently introduced technique in healthcare, which produces section images of the chest at a lower radiation dose than computed tomography (CT) and with better depth resolution than conventional chest radiography. The primary aims of the studies described in this dissertation were to compare chest tomosynthesis with conventional radiography, to evaluate the effects of clinical experience and learning with feedback on the performance of observers analyzing tomosynthesis images, and to investigate the effect of radiation dose level in tomosynthesis, in the detection of pulmonary nodules. 3. Aortic valve imaging - Towards new standards in prosthetic valve endocarditis
Sammanfattning : Background: Aortic prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) is a disease with high mortality, and diagnosis is difficult. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has been the mainstay imaging modality in the diagnostic workup, but TEE has diagnostic shortcomings. Thus, new imaging methods might improve the diagnostic workup of PVE. LÄS MER
4. Safety with Mechanical Chest Compressions in CPR : Clinical studies with the LUCAS™ device
Sammanfattning : Chest compressions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation are of utmost importance although not without a risk. Many injuries are described but the incidence of these is hard to define due to methodological differences. It is strenuous to perform chest compressions and therefore mechanical chest compressions have been looked upon with interest. LÄS MER
5. Whole-Body MRI including Diffusion-Weighted Imaging in Oncology
Sammanfattning : Cancer is one of the major causes of worldwide mortality. Imaging plays a vital role in the staging, follow-up, and evaluation of therapeutic response in cancer patients. Whole-body (WB) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as a non-ionizing imaging technique, is a promising procedure to assess tumor spreading in a single examination. LÄS MER
