  1. 1. Laboratory methods for investigation of the immunological orchestra in response to pathogens

    Författare :Hanna Carlsson; Ivar Tjernberg; Christina Ekerfelt; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Jorma Hinkula; Matti Sällberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Borrelia; Influenza; Immunology; Immune response; Cellmediated; Serological; Subclinical; ELISA; Luminex; Proximity extension assay;

    Sammanfattning : Laboratory methods used for investigation of immune response often involve collection of whole blood and analysis of different biomarkers in blood components or generated from pathogen stimulation of whole blood or peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Methods used to measure biomarkers are for example enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) which measures one biomarker at a time or multiplex assays for example x-unknown, multi-analyte profiling (xMAP) by Luminex or proximity extension assay (PEA), which can measure up to just over 3000 biomarkers at a time. 2. 2. Targeting bacterial infections by using immunomodulatory host defence peptides and proteins

    Författare :Martina Kalle; Lund Dermatologi och venereologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Host dfence peptides; Sepsis; Immunomodulation; Heparin cofactor II;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial infections and sepsis are amongst the leading causes of death worldwide. Sepsis is caused by an uncontrolled systemic host response towards an invading pathogen. Due to the engagement of various systems including cellmediated responses, the coagulation and complement cascades, treatment of sepsis remains challenging. LÄS MER

  3. 3. FOXP3 and CTLA-4 : how isoforms regulate immunological tolerance

    Författare :Sang Liu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The maintenance of immunological tolerance is vital for preventing the immune system to damage normal tissues and physiological function of the body. CD4+FOXP3+ regulatory T (Treg) cells can suppress immune responses in a dominant manner and are essential for immunological tolerance. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Antibody responses in Plasmodium falciparum malaria and their relation to protection against the disease

    Författare :Ahmed Kamal Bolad; Klavs Berzins; Lars Hviid; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunity; parasital immunology; Plasmodium falciparum malaria; antibody mediated invasion growth inhibition; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Protective immunity against Plasmodium falciparum may be obtained after repeated exposure to infection. Several studies indicate that immunity against the blood stages of the P. Falciparum infection is mainly antibody mediated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Varicella immunity and vaccination

    Författare :Anita Svahn; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is an air-borne, extremely contagious herpesvirus. It causes chickenpox, which usually is a benign illness in childhood. Adults, pregnant women and immunocompromised patients often get a severe disease with complications. After infection the virus stays latent in sensory ganglia. LÄS MER
