26. Pores, inclusions and electromagnetic stirring : Topics from the continuous casting of steel
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with two topics of relevance to the continuous casting of steel,in view of their importance as regards the quality of the final solidified structure. The first concerns the precipitation of gas pores and inclusions in the interden-dritic region of the solidifying metal. 27. On particles and slags in steel casting
Sammanfattning : Hadfield steel is widely accepted as one of the most important steel alloys utilized in industrial applications where high impact strength and wear resistance is required. Like in most metallic alloys used for component casting, the mechanical properties of Hadfield steel are directly connected with the microstructure of the material. LÄS MER
28. Eutectic Modification of Al-Si casting alloys
Sammanfattning : Aluminum alloys with silicon as the major alloying element are the most widely used aluminum casting alloys. The eutectic phase in these alloys is formed by hard and brittle silicon plates in an aluminum matrix. Such silicon plates can act as crack propagation paths deteriorating the toughness of the material. LÄS MER
29. Water-based Tape Casting of Ceramics and Fabrication of Ceramic Laminates
Sammanfattning : The objective of the work presented in this dissertation has been twofold: to develop a water-based system for tape casting and to build laminar structures from the tapes. A set of requirements on the binder was specified and latexes were identified as suitable for water-based tape casting, mainly owing to their low viscosity and high polymeric content. LÄS MER
30. A study of mold flux entrapment and gas entrainment in an ingot casting process
Sammanfattning : The focus of this work is to study the gas entrainment and mold flux entrapments during the ingot filling process based on physical and numerical modelling. The formation of the free surface was investigated in the uphill teeming method, which illustrates a dynamic change at a quasi-steady state.
