31. Malaria, B lymphocytes and Epstein-Barr virus : emerging concepts on Burkitt's lymphoma pathogenesis
Sammanfattning : Plasmodium falciparum and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections are recognized co-factors in the genesis of endemic Burkitt's Lymphoma (eBL), the most common paediatric cancer in equatorial Africa. This thesis work examines and discusses interactions between Pfalciparum and EBV that could promote the emergence of eBL. LÄS MER
32. Characteristics of EBV-infected B cell lines and B-CLL clones which determine their interaction with lymphocytes
Sammanfattning : The results concerning T Iymphocyte mediated recognition of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) carrying Burkitt Iymphoma (BL) cell lines and EBV-infected chronic Iymphocytic leukemia (CLL) B cells contribute to the understanding of the generally harmless host-EBV interaction and may be extrapolated to the fate of normal B cells after EBV infection. The phenotype of EBV negative BL lines resembles resting B cells. LÄS MER
33. Characterisation of the interaction between the Hepatitis B virus core antigen and B cells
Sammanfattning : The Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a major cause of severe human liver disease globally. There are around 350 million persistent HBV carriers with a risk of development of liver disease including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. LÄS MER
34. The large sialoglycoprotein of human lymphocytes
Sammanfattning : L-LSGP is an abundant cell surface glycoprotein (a.m.w. intact 115—125 kdalton, desialylated 140—160 kdalton) restricted to lymphocytes in the hemopoietic system. LÄS MER
35. B cell subsets in autoimmune disease
Sammanfattning : B lymphocytes are a type of white blood cells, belonging to the adaptive arm of the immune system and involved in creating immunological memory. B cells function in the humoral immune system by secreting antibodies which can bind pathogens to prevent them from doing further damage and to help other immune cells to target them. LÄS MER
