11. Autonomous Lab-on-a-chip: solutions and fast prototyping tools
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, solutions for the development of autonomous Lab-on-a-chip (LOC), and 3D printing for fast prototyping of LOC devices are investigated. Lab-on-a-chip devices integrate analytical systems and conditioning processes in a compact package. LÄS MER
12. Statistical Seismology Studies in Central America : b-value, seismic hazard and seismic quiescence
Sammanfattning : The present thesis collects results of research applying theory and methods of statistical seismology to the seismicity of Central America, a region with a complex tectonic setting controlled by the interaction of four major plates, namely the Caribbean, Cocos, Nazca and North American plates.Three different earthquake catalogues were used for studies focused on stress in a tectonic volume, seismic hazard maps and seismicity patterns (precursors), covering the region 94ºW to 81ºW and 5ºN to 20ºN. 13. Switching ON Fetal B Lymphopoiesis
Sammanfattning : B-1a cells are innate-like lymphocytes that develop primarily during fetal and neonatal life, whereas adult bone marrow (BM) hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) preferentially give rise to follicular B-2 cells. Functioning at the interface of the innate and adaptive immune systems, B-1a cells provide a non-redundant first line of defense prior to the temporally delayed establishment of a B-2 cell response. 14. Annealed Glass Failure Modelling : A Weakest-Link Approach with Statistical Analysis
Sammanfattning : Novel and increased use of glass in building construction has been made possible, as a result of methods of mass production introduced during the 20th century and advanced computational structural analyses. With modern use of glass structures, a range of demands emerge which need to be addressed in the strength design process. LÄS MER
15. Conditional targeting of the PDGF-B gene
Sammanfattning : Platelet derived growth factors (PDGF) are known as mitogens for fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells (SMC) and glia cells in culture. Previous in vivo analyses have shown that PDGF-B is necessary for normal embryonic development and life after birth, but the relative importance of the various cellular sources of PDGF-B during development has not been clarified.
