1. Carotid Artery Stenosis : Surgical Aspects
Sammanfattning : Randomised controlled trials (RCT) have demonstrated a net benefit of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in stroke prevention for patients with severe carotid artery stenosis as compared to best medical treatment. Results in routine clinical practice must not be inferior to those in the RCTs. LÄS MER
2. Popliteal Artery Aneurysms : - epidemiology, treatment and results
Sammanfattning : Popliteal aneurysms (PA) are limb threatening, since the aneurysm thrombose and emboli from the aneurysm sac occlude the distal vessels, resulting in chronic or acute limb ischaemia. Open surgical repair (OSR) has been challenged by endovascular repair (ER), a minimal invasive technique. LÄS MER
3. Popliteal Artery Aneurysm : Epidemiology, Surgical Management and Outcome
Sammanfattning : Even if popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) is the most common peripheral aneurysm, no single surgeon or institution has enough patients to study this disease with appropriate scientific methods, and no population-based investigation exists. PAA epidemiology, treatment, management, and outcome were studied in a population-based study of 571 patients (717 legs) primarily operated on for PAAs and 100 episodes of preoperative thrombolysis in Sweden between 1987 and 2002. 4. Conduits in coronary artery bypass grafting surgery : Saphenous vein, radial and internal thoracic arteries
Sammanfattning : A novel technique for saphenous vein (SV) graft harvesting, the No-touch technique (NT), has been developed at the Dept. of Cardiovascular surgery, Örebro University hospital. With NT the SV is harvested with a pedicle of surrounding tissue. This avoids graft spasm and eliminates the need for distension. LÄS MER
5. Carotid artery disease : plaque features and vulnerability
Sammanfattning : Background: Atherosclerosis is an important cause of stroke. Ultrasound offers the convenience of real-time and detailed assessment of carotid plaque features as well as arterial wall thickening and composition. LÄS MER
