31. Estimation of forest parameters using 3D satellite data : stereogrammetry, radargrammetry and interferometry
Sammanfattning : Accurate data about the forest are needed both in climate research and forest management planning. This thesis focuses on using different types of three-dimensional (3D) satellite data sources to accurately estimate forest variables, primarily above-ground biomass (AGB) and tree height (H). 32. Methodologies to assess the fate of polar organic compounds in aquatic environments
Sammanfattning : Polar organic compounds (POCs) are chemicals with polar functional groups in their structure. The functional groups make the compounds hydrophilic and less prone to partition with biota. However, the knowledge of their fate is limited due to difficulties associated with their measurements. 33. Phosphorus chemistry in managed forest soils : effects of weathering and wood ash fertilisation
Sammanfattning : Weathering and Podzolisation are key mechanisms that transform primary mineral apatite into a phosphorus (P) pool with low solubility. In addition, intensive forest harvesting removes nutrients from the soil, reducing P availability. LÄS MER
34. Biochemical studies of thiamine deficiency in Baltic salmon (Salmo salar)
Sammanfattning : The first part of this thesis is about the development of a method to inject various substances into the yolk of fish eggs. The method was named nanoinjection and enabled the injection of volumes as small as 10-9 L into the yolk of single fish eggs directly after fertilization, with insignificant mortality due to the injection. 35. Modeling the global fate and transport of perfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS)
Sammanfattning : Perfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS) are persistent contaminants that are widely distributed in the global environment. Despite the fact that these chemicals have been manufactured and used for over 50 years, there has been little scientific and regulatory interest until very recently. LÄS MER
