36. Nitrogen removal in treatment wetlands : Factors influencing spatial and temporal variations
Sammanfattning : Decreasing the nitrogen transport from land to surrounding seas is a major task throughout the world to limit eutrophication of the coastal areas. Several approaches are currently used, including the establishment of wetlands, to decrease the transport of nitrogen. LÄS MER
37. Denitrification in a Non-nitrifying Activated Sludge System Employing Recirculation from a Tertiary Nitrification Unit
Sammanfattning : A non-nitrifying, denitrifying activated sludge system has been demonstrated to give high denitrification rates and to be a useful component in a municipal wastewater treatment plant where partial nitrogen removal is required. One useful configuration is where clarified effluent from a non-nitrifying activated sludge system is nitrified in a tertiary nitrification unit and recirculated to the activated sludge system for denitrification. 38. Nanostructured Tungsten Materials by Chemical Methods
Sammanfattning : Tungsten based-materials are used in many different technical fields, particularly in applications requiring good temperature and/or erosion resistance. Nanostructuring of tungsten alloys and composites has the potential to dramatically improve the materials’ properties, enhancing the performance in present applications or enabling totally new possibilities. 39. Nitrogen nutrition and biomass distribution in conifers : aspects of organic and inorganic nitrogen acquisition
Sammanfattning : The main objectives of the work presented in this thesis were to increase our understanding of how different chemical forms of nitrogen (N) affect the growth and biomass distribution of conifer seedlings and hence their establishment and performance in field. Growth studies of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris (L.)), Norway spruce (Picea abies (L. LÄS MER
40. Investigation of a Biofilm Reactor Model with Suspended Biomass
Sammanfattning : Biofilms are compact, sessile microbial communities that attach to surfaces in aqueous environments. In wastewater treatment, they are especially important for removal of phosphorus and nitrogen, which, if released into a receiving water body, can cause severe eutrophication. LÄS MER
