1. Symmetry in Randomness : Additive Functionals and Symmetries of Random Trees and Tree-Like Graphs
Sammanfattning : Properties of symmetries in random trees and tree-like graphs are explored. The primary structures studied are Galton-Watson trees, unlabeled unordered trees as well as labeled subcritical graphs. LÄS MER
2. On particle-based online smoothing and parameter inference in general hidden Markov models
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of two papers studying online inference in general hidden Markov models using sequential Monte Carlo methods. The first paper present an novel algorithm, the particle-based, rapid incremental smoother (PaRIS), aimed at efficiently perform online approximation of smoothed expectations of additive state functionals in general hidden Markov models. 3. On particle-based online smoothing and parameter inference in general state-space models
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of 4 papers, presented in Paper A-D, on particle- based online smoothing and parameter inference in general state-space hidden Markov models. In Paper A a novel algorithm, the particle-based, rapid incremental smoother (PaRIS), aimed at efficiently performing online approxima- tion of smoothed expectations of additive state functionals in general hidden Markov models, is presented. 4. Adaptive finite element methods for plate bending problems
Sammanfattning : The major theme of the thesis is the development of goal-oriented model adaptive continuous-discontinuous Galerkin (c/dG) finite element methods (FEM), for the numerical solution of the Kirchhoff and Mindlin-Reissner (MR) plate models. Hierarchical modeling for linear elasticity on thin domains (beam-like) in two spatial dimensions is also considered, as a natural extension of the Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam theories. LÄS MER
5. Flight Control Design Using Backstepping
Sammanfattning : Aircraft flight control design is traditionally based on linear control theory, due to the existing wealth of tools for linear design and analysis. However, in order to achieve tactical advantages, modern fighter aircraft strive towards performing maneuvers outside the region where the dynamics of flight are linear, and the need for nonlinear tools arises.
