  2. 2. Stress susceptibility, beta-blocker use and cancer survival

    Författare :Ruzan Udumyan; Katja Fall; Scott Montgomery; Fang Fang; Edoardo Botteri; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stress resilience; β-blockers; primary cancer; survival analysis; overall mortality; cancer-specific mortality; register-based cohort study;

    Sammanfattning : Accumulating evidence suggests that chronic stress may influence tumour biology through activation of neuroendocrine pathways and thus impair survival. However, measuring stressful exposures and their influence on health is challenging, partly due to substantial inter-individual variation in stress susceptibility. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Severe trauma : risks and outcomes

    Författare :Mikael Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Trauma, “the neglected disease of modern society”, is a global health concern of enormous proportions. Knowledge about factors associated with trauma occurrence, complications and outcome is highly valuable for the improvement of trauma care. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Patrik Svensson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; eGFR; creatinine; cystatin C; CKD-EPI; CKD; CVD; Genetics; Blood Pressure; Hypertension;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death. 5. 5. Aspects of risk factors, pathophysiology and outcomes in trauma

    Författare :Jesper Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Trauma is a global health concern. Many trauma patients succumb on the scene or in the immediate phase after trauma. Patients surviving the initial phase may die at a later stage or suffer debilitating consequences in the post-resuscitation phase of trauma care in intensive care units. LÄS MER
