1. Effects of antiresorptive agents on inflammation and bone regeneration in different osseous sites - experimental and clinical studies
Sammanfattning : The biological mechanisms involved in bone regeneration in osteoporotic bone and the effect of antiresorptive drugs in relation to surgically inserted biomaterials are not fully understood. Improved osseointegration of titanium implants but also adverse effects of antiresorptive therapies, such as osteonecrotic jaw have been described in the literature. LÄS MER
2. The role of SUMO pathway in pathophsiology of skeletal muscle
Sammanfattning : Skeletal muscles are highly evolved and essential organs comprising 40 % of the total human body weight. They are essential in maintaining posture, energy metabolism, secrete hormones and act as central reserves for amino acids. LÄS MER
3. Applications of microdialysis in studies of the adrenergic regulation of lipolysis in human skeletal muscle and adipose tissue
Sammanfattning : Lipolysis, i.e., hydrolysis of triaeylglycerol to free fatty acids and glycerol, is a central process in lipid metabolism, and the regulation of lipid metabolism is altered in several common disorders, such as diabetes, obesity and atherosclerosis. LÄS MER
4. The metabolic syndrome : studies on thrifty genes
Sammanfattning : The metabolic syndrome consists of a cluster of atherogenic risk factors that include insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, obesity and a procoagulant state with impaired fibrinolysis. Genetic factors might predispose to the metabolic syndrome while the increasing prevalence of visceral and abdominal obesity linked to the shift to more sedentary lifestyles exacerbates the manifestation. 5. Tracing Prehistoric Activities : Life ways, habitual behaviour and health of hunter-gatherers on Gotland
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, skeletal and dental evidence of physical strain and habitual behaviour has been investigated through musculoskeletal stress markers (MSM) and extramasticatory dental wear. The skeletal and dental traits have been examined in relation to health patterns and material culture in order to gain better knowledge of life ways of hunter-gatherers on Gotland with special focus on Pitted Ware culture sites and the Ajvide site in particular.
