  1. 1. The neuropeptide VIP and the IL-6 family of cytokines in bone : effects on bone resorption, cytokine expression and receptor signalling in osteoblasts and bone marrow stromal cells

    Författare :Emma Persson; Ulf Lerner; Andreas Kindmark; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; osteoblast; bone resorption; cytokines; IL-6; neuropeptides; VIP; transcription factor; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Bone tissue is continuously degraded and rebuilt to respond to the needs of the body. Cells of the osteoblast lineage are responsible for the formation of bone, whereas the resorption of bone tissue is carried out by osteoclasts. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cytokines and bone : On the role of IL-1 and IL-6 in bone metabolism

    Författare :Eva Bornefalk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; bone; cytokines; osteoporosis; cAMP; IL-1; IL-6; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Cytokines such as interleukin-1 (IL-l) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) have been implicated in the pathogenesis of postmenopausal osteoporosis. The regulation of cytokine release is unclear, and the mechanism of cytokine induced bone resorption remains to be elucidated. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of IL-6-signaling and inflammatory response – Role of insulin, FOXO1 and PKCδ

    Författare :Emelie Wallerstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2-Diabetes; inflammation; obesity; IL-6; STAT3; PKCδ; FOXO1;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate if and how insulin antagonizes interleukin-6 (IL-6)-signaling and action using both 3T3-L1 mouse adipocytes (Paper I) and HepG2 human hepatocytes (Paper III). We also investigated the importance of PKCδ in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) lacking protein kinase C-δ (PKCδ-/-) (Paper II). LÄS MER

  4. 4. IL-6 and GLP-1 in body fat regulating parts of the CNS in healthy mice

    Författare :Fredrik Anesten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IL-6; IL-6Rα; GLP-1; obesity; hypothalamus; brainstem; tanycytes; immunohistochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : It has previously been shown that mice lacking interleukin-6 (IL-6) develop mature onset obesity. The weight-suppressing effects of IL-6 have been assumed to be exerted at a central level, as supported by the fact that ICV- injections, but not peripheral injections of IL-6, increases energy expenditure and decreases body fat in rodents. 5. 5. Body fat regulating neuropeptides: relation to interleukines and gut microbiota

    Författare :Erik Schéle; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IL-6; IL-6 receptor a; obesity; hypothalamus; brainstem; immunohistochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Previous studies have shown that mice lacking interleukin-6 (IL-6), an important cytokine in the immune system, develop obesity, and that central, but not peripheral, administration of IL-6 induces energy expenditure. These findings suggest that IL-6 suppresses fat mass through the central nervous system. LÄS MER
