21. Vascular effects of neuropeptides and UDP-β-S and alterations after stroke
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to investigate the changes in vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP) and P2Y6-mediated signaling following experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO). VIP and CGRP are among the most powerful vasodilators known to man while P2Y6 mediates strong vasoconstriction in cerebral blood vessels. LÄS MER
22. Cerebral ischemia studied with positron emission tomography and microdialysis
Sammanfattning : Stroke is the third leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the industrialized world. Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), the least common form of stroke, is one of the most demanding diseases treated in neurointensive care units. Cerebral ischemia may develop rapidly, and has a major influence on outcome. LÄS MER
23. Stress-induced cardiomyopathy - clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Stress-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) is an acute cardiac condition with akinesia in the left ventricle (LV) that can be severe. A stress-trigger, physical or emotional, is usually identified preceding onset of symptoms and catecholamine overstimulation is involved in the pathogenesis of SIC. LÄS MER
24. Clinical Bedside Studies of Cerebral Blood Flow in Severe Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Using Xenon CT
Sammanfattning : Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is frequently complicated by delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), contributing to poor outcome. Particularly for patients in poor neurological state, prediction of the acute clinical course is difficult, as is the early detection of DCI. LÄS MER
25. Signal Transduction and Gene Regulation in Cerebral Arteries Following Ischemia
Sammanfattning : The thesis consideres the molecular events that take place in the cerebral arteries following a stroke. The degree and temporal course of reperfusion following a stroke is pivotal for the survival of the neuronal tissue in the penumbra. LÄS MER
