  1. 6. Numerical Studies of Flow and AssociatedLosses in the Exhaust Port of a Diesel Engine

    Författare :Yue Wang; Laszlo Fuchs; Mihai Mihaescu; Angelo Onorati; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Internal Combustion Engine; Exhaust flow; Exhaust Valve; Exhaust Port; Large Eddy Simulation; Valve and Piston Motion; Total Pressure Losses; Energy Losses; Discharge coefficient; Flow Losses; Flow structures; Air Flow Bench; Engine-like Conditions; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Sammanfattning : In the last decades, the focus of internal combustion engine development has moved towards more efficient and less pollutant engines. In a Diesel engine, approximately 30-40% of the energy provided by combustion is lost through the exhaust gases. The exhaust gases are hot and therefore rich of energy. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Through air drying : Thermographic studies of drying rates, drying non-uniformity and infrared assisted drying

    Författare :Aron Tysén; Lars Nilsson; Shri Ramaswamy; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Through air drying; TAD; Drying; Dewatering; Water removal; Infrared drying; Non-uniformity; Variability; Formation; Thermography; Tissue; Fabric; Wire; Pulp; Grammage; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The removal of water is an integral part of papermaking. The drying process is responsible for a great share of the energy used in the paper machine. Premium grade tissue products are dried by through air drying. Large volumes of natural gas are burned to heat the air drawn through the paper web to achieve the drying. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Flow Duct Acoustics : An LES Approach

    Författare :Emma Alenius; Mats Åbom; Laszlo Fuchs; Oliver Paschereit; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aero-acoustics; duct-acoustics; sound generation; acoustic scattering; acoustic-flow interaction; LES; IC-engines; orifice plate; confined jet;

    Sammanfattning : The search for quieter internal combustion engines drives the quest for a better understanding of the acoustic properties of engine duct components. Simulations are an important tool for enhanced understanding; they give insight into the flow-acoustic interaction in components where it is difficult to perform measurements. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Investigations of Flow Patterns in Ventilated Rooms Using Particle Image Velocimetry : Applications in a Scaled Room with Rapidly Varying Inflow and over a Wall-Mounted Radiator

    Författare :Amir Sattari; Ivo Martinac; Mats Sandberg; Dirk Müller; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Particle Image Velocimetry PIV ; experimental study; structured light 3D scanning system; ventilation; varying flow rate; room model; wall-mounted radiator; air; water; flow; Particle Image Velocimetry PIV ; experimentell studie; scanningsystem för strukturerat 3D-ljus; ventilation; varierande tilluftsflöde; rumsmodell; väggmonterad radiator; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis introduces and describes a new experimental setup for examining the effects of pulsating inflow to a ventilated enclosure. The study aimed to test the hypothesis that a pulsating inflow has potential to improve ventilation quality by reducing the stagnation zones through enhanced mixing. LÄS MER

  5. 10. On methods for estimating oceanic flow

    Författare :Jenny A. U. Nilsson; Peter Lundberg; Peter Sigray; Bert Rudels; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ocean monitoring techniques; Barotropic flow; Baroclinic flow; Hydraulic theory; Baltic Sea; Bahía de Concepción; Oceanography; Oceanografi; Oceanography; oceanografi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to estimate and possibly quantify ocean flow by utilizing conventional and novel observational methods as well as model results. Motionally induced voltages, from a cable-based observational system in the Baltic Sea, were analysed to determine their utility for ocean monitoring. LÄS MER
