26. Simulation of contact, friction and wear in gears : a finite element approach
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, resent methods in computational contact mechanics is brought into the process of gear design. The finite element method is used to model two elastic bodies in contact. By defining a contact interface between these two bodies, constitutive laws, regarding normal contact, friction and wear, are included. LÄS MER
27. Finite Element Procedures for Fluid-structure Interaction
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns finite element (FE) methods for solving fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. Two types of fluid-structure interaction are considered. A finite element method for solving the interaction between a flowing incompressible fluid and a linear elastic structure is proposed. The flow is assumed to be laminar. LÄS MER
28. Valuing Path-Dependent Options using the Finite Element Method, Duality Techniques, and Model Reduction
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we develop an adaptive finite element method for pricing of several path-dependent options including barrier options, lookback options, and Asian options. The options are priced using the Black-Scholes PDE-model, and the resulting PDE:s are of parabolic type in one spatial dimension with different boundary conditions and jump conditions at monitoring dates. 29. Patient-Specific Finite Element Modeling of the Blood Flow in the Left Ventricle of a Human Heart
Sammanfattning : Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world. Therefore, numerous studies are undertaken to identify indicators which can be applied to discover cardiac dysfunctions at an early age. LÄS MER
30. Numerical Analysis of Evolution Problems in Multiphysics
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we study numerical methods for evolution problems in multiphysics. The term multiphysics is commonly used to describe physical phenomena that involve several interacting models. Typically, such problems result in coupled systems of partial differential equations.
