1. Finite Element Procedures for Fluid-structure Interaction
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns finite element (FE) methods for solving fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. Two types of fluid-structure interaction are considered. A finite element method for solving the interaction between a flowing incompressible fluid and a linear elastic structure is proposed. The flow is assumed to be laminar. LÄS MER
2. Modeling and simulation of electro-viscoelastic polymers
Sammanfattning : The electroactive polymer materials considered in this work react to electric stimuli by producing deformations. In some cases, the electrically induced deformations are moderate, while in other cases they can be very large and the specimen is stretched to more than twice its original length. LÄS MER
3. Lubrication of conformal contacts with surface texturing
Sammanfattning : Conformal contacts like those found in journal or inclined slider bearings are widely encountered in various types of machines from small engines to large turbines. These contacts involve convergent gaps that are used to separate the surfaces in relative motion and generate pressure in the lubricant film. LÄS MER
4. Bohumil Hrabals litterära collage
Sammanfattning : The main theme of the thesis is an analysis of three texts by the Czech author Bohumil Hrabal (1914 – 1997), namely ’Mrtvomat’ (’Mrtvomat’, 1949), This City is in the Joint Care of Its Inhabitants (Toto mìsto je ve spoleèné péèi obyvatel, 1967), and ’Legend Played on Strings Stretched Between the Cradle and the Coffin’ (’Legenda zahraná na strunách mezi kolébkou a rakví’, 1968). These texts are compiled of segments, selected from the works of other authors and fragments of overheard conversations. LÄS MER
5. Biological Sensing and DNA Templated Electronics Using Conjugated Polymers
Sammanfattning : Conjugated polymers have been found useful in a wide range of applications such as solar cells, sensor elements and printed electronics, due to their optical and electronic properties. Functionalization with charged side chains has enabled water solubility, resulting in an enhanced interaction with biomolecules. LÄS MER
