16. Beyond the Minefield : Mining, Development, and Open Moments in Northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : In recent years mining has taken centre stage in rural development. In part, this is a consequence of the ‘green transition’, where the demand for minerals to develop new energy systems is increasing dramatically. LÄS MER
17. Quantitative methods for profiling dynamic chromatin features
Sammanfattning : Living systems, from entire organisms down to the single cells constituting them are dynamic entities that continuously adapt and respond to their local environment. Cells achieve this through gene expression programs derived from static information encoded in the DNA made dynamic through chemical modifications at the chromatin level, collectively termed the epigenome. 18. Transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) expression : the role of histone modification and alternative splicing
Sammanfattning : Telomerase, an RNA-dependent DNA polymerase responsible for telomeric DNA elongation, is silent in most normal differentiated human cells due to the tight repression of its catalytic unit, telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), whereas constitutive hTERT expression and telomerase activation are prerequisites for cellular immortalization/malignant transformation. As reconfiguration of chromatin acts like a master on/off switch, determining whether particular genes are active or inactive, the project was specifically designed to first elucidate molecular strategies that integrate diverse signalling pathways at the hTERT chromatin and consequently result in telomerase activation or repression in normal and malignant human cells. 19. Transcription kinetics in pluripotent cells : RNA turnover, transcription velocity, and epigenomic regulation
Sammanfattning : Transcriptional regulation is one of the primary steps in gene expression control. It is now appreciated that a large fraction of coding genome is transcribed in concert of other functional RNAs. LÄS MER
20. Molecular control of activity - dormancy transitions in Populus
Sammanfattning : Perennials such as woody plants, growing in the high northern part of the earth have to cope with seasonal changes alternating between mild summer and the harsh winter periods. To survive and adapt their reproductive phase to the most favorable environmental conditions trees cycle between periods of active growth during summer and a state of growth arrest during winter, referred to as the activity- dormancy cycle.
