  1. 16. Significance of hydrolytic enzymes expressed during xylem cell death

    Författare :Benjamin Bollhöner; Hannele Tuominen; Moritz Nowack; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; Populus; xylem cell death; metacaspase; fiber; lateral root emergence; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik; molecular cell biology; molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Xylem is an inherent feature of all vascular plants and functions in water transport and mechanical support. In order to efficiently transport water, xylem cells are reinforced by secondary walls before they undergo programmed cell death and their cell contents are removed by autolysis to create a hollow tube. 2. 17. Investigation of genes and proteins involved in xylan biosynthesis

    Författare :Anders Winzell; Ines Ezcurra; Johan Edqvist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Populus; xylan biosynthesis; hemicellulose; glycosyltransferase; GT43; IRX; glycoside hydrolase; GH10; Xyn10A; CAZy; transcription factor; MYB; wood formation; secondary cell wall; Arabidopsis; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Wood formation or xylogenesis is a fundamental process for so diverse issues as industry, shelter and a sustainable environment. Wood is comprised of secondary xylem, rigid large cells with thick cell walls that are lignified. LÄS MER

  3. 18. New regulators of xylem lignification in arabidopsis

    Författare :Bernadette Sztojka; Hannele Tuominen; Simon Hawkins; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Xylem; lignin; Arabidopsis; secondary cell wall; transcriptional regulation; lignin-biosynthetic gene; S G lignin ratio;

    Sammanfattning : The ability of land plants to grow upright, bear their own weight and withstand adverse environmental conditions is largely dependent on the secondary xylem tissues of the stem. The xylem cells acquire thick secondary cell walls which are composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Discovery of fiber-active enzymes in Populus wood

    Författare :Henrik Aspeborg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Populus; xylogenesis; secondary cell wall; cellulose; hemicellulose; microarrays; transcript profiling; carbohydrate-active enzyme; glycosyltransferase; glycoside hydrolase;

    Sammanfattning : Renewable fibers produced by forest trees provide excellentraw material of high economic value for industrialapplications. Despite this, the genes and corresponding enzymesinvolved in wood fiber biosynthesis in trees are poorlycharacterized. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Functional genomics of wood degradation and biosynthesis

    Författare :Alex S. Rajangam; Tuula Teeri; Johan Edqvist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; populus; xylogenesis; secondary cell wall; cellulose; hemicellulose; microarrays; transcript profiling; Other biology; Övrig biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Forest biotechnology is a fast emerging field of research. The application of biotechnological tools will enhance the quality of the forest products. The resultant value added and environmentally sustainable products are an absolute necessity in the future. LÄS MER
