  1. 1. Significance of hydrolytic enzymes expressed during xylem cell death

    Författare :Benjamin Bollhöner; Hannele Tuominen; Moritz Nowack; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; Populus; xylem cell death; metacaspase; fiber; lateral root emergence; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik; molecular cell biology; molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Xylem is an inherent feature of all vascular plants and functions in water transport and mechanical support. In order to efficiently transport water, xylem cells are reinforced by secondary walls before they undergo programmed cell death and their cell contents are removed by autolysis to create a hollow tube. 2. 2. Programmed Cell Death in Xylem Development

    Författare :Laetitia Charleen Courtois-Moreau; Hannele Tuominen; Stefan Jansson; Christina Dixelius; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PCD Programmed Cell Death ; Xylem; Apoptosis; Autophagy; Secondary Cell Walls; Microscopy; Microarrays; Comet Assay; TUNEL Assay; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Concerns about climate changes and scarcity of fossil fuels are rising. Hence wood is becoming an attractive source of renewable energy and raw material and these new dimensions have prompted increasing interest in wood formation in trees, in both the scientific community and wider public. 3. 3. Xylem cells cooperate in the control of lignification and cell death during plant vascular development

    Författare :Sacha Escamez; Hannele Tuominen; Andrew Groover; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Xylem; Arabidopsis; programmed cell death; tracheary element; xylem vessel; autophagy; metacaspase; lignin; secondary cell wall; chromatin; gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : The evolutionary success of land plants was fostered by the acquisition of the xylem vascular tissue which conducts water and minerals upwards from the roots. The xylem tissue of flowering plants is composed of three main types of cells: the sap-conducting tracheary elements (TE), the fibres which provide mechanical support and the parenchyma cells which provide metabolic support to the tissue. 4. 4. New regulators of xylem lignification in arabidopsis

    Författare :Bernadette Sztojka; Hannele Tuominen; Simon Hawkins; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Xylem; lignin; Arabidopsis; secondary cell wall; transcriptional regulation; lignin-biosynthetic gene; S G lignin ratio;

    Sammanfattning : The ability of land plants to grow upright, bear their own weight and withstand adverse environmental conditions is largely dependent on the secondary xylem tissues of the stem. The xylem cells acquire thick secondary cell walls which are composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The significance of ethylene and ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTORS in wood formation of hybrid aspen

    Författare :Bernard Wessels; Hannele Tuominen; Judith Felten; Totte Niittylä; Kurt Fagerstedt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ethylene; wood formation; hybrid aspen; Populus; ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTOR; ERF85; ERF139; cambium; lignin; xylem expansion; secondary cell wall; tension wood; cambial derivative cell fate; vessel element; time-lapse photography; molekylär bioteknik inst f nat vet biokemi ; molecular biotechnology dept of biochem ; genetik; Genetics; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : The woody tissues serve to stabilise plants, store nutrients and translocate water and minerals. The formation of wood, or ’secondary xylem’, follows a well-defined developmental gradient which is initiated by cell division activity in the vascular cambium. LÄS MER
