  1. 11. Role of calcium in developing cellular network : Ca2+ in human fetal neural stem cells and rat neonatal cardiomyocytes

    Författare :Jeongsook Park; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to study Ca2+ homeostasis and its regulation in developing heart and brain cells. Cardiomyocytes rapidly developed a fast calcium machinery, (1) to regulate cytoskeletal protein interactions to the extracellular matrix of neighboring cells through gap junctions, and (2) to induce Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release (CICR) from sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), (3) to generate rapid energy supply of ATP from mitochondria. 2. 12. Pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical manifestations in primary Sjögren’s syndrome and Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

    Författare :Marika Kvarnström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS) is a systemic inflammatory autoimmune condition. The etiology of pSS is mainly unknown, but it has been suggested that environmental factors trigger an immune response in genetically susceptible individuals. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Risk factors for autoimmune-mediated congenital heart block

    Författare :Sabrina Meisgen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Placental transfer of maternal Ro/SSA and La/SSB autoantibodies during pregnancy is associated with conduction disturbances and inflammation in the developing fetal heart, termed autoimmune-mediated congenital heart block (CHB). Maternal Ro/SSA and La/SSB autoantibodies are the main risk factors associated with the fetal cardiac manifestations to date, however, the low recurrence rate despite persisting autoantibodies in subsequent pregnancies indicates that additional factors determine fetal susceptibility. 4. 14. The role of autoantibodies in inflammatory myopathies

    Författare :Sevim Barbasso Helmers; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies; polymyositis; dermatomyositis; inclusion body myositis; ILD; IVIG; IFN; BAFF; endothelial cells; anti-Jo-1;

    Sammanfattning : Polymyositis (PM), dermatomyositis (DM) and inclusion body myositis (IBM), collectively called myositis, are chronic inflammatory myopathies. These disease subsets are heterogeneous but share some features, such as skeletal muscle weakness and inflammatory cell infiltrates in muscle tissue. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Aminoacyl tRNA synthetases and their connection to autoimmune rheumatic disease

    Författare :Charlotta Preger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM, collectively called myositis) are rare autoimmune rheumatic diseases characterized by chronic inflammation and associated with high mortality and morbidity (1, 2). The disease nomenclature tells us that IIM has traditionally been described as a group of diseases mainly affecting the skeletal muscle, with muscle weakness and weakened muscle endurance as the dominating clinical symptoms (3).
