  1. 16. Fall prediction and a high-intensity functional exercise programme to improve physical functions and to prevent falls among older people living in residential care facilities

    Författare :Erik Rosendahl; Lars Nyberg; Yngve Gustafson; Gun-Britt Jarnlo; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aged; frail elderly; cognition disorders; residential facilities; randomized controlled trials; exercise; exercise therapy; nutrition; predictive value of tests; accidental falls: prevention control; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Sammanfattning : Impairments in balance, mobility, and lower-limb strength are common in the growing population of older people and can lead to dramatic consequences for the individual, such as dependency in activities of daily living, admission to nursing home, falls, and fractures. The main purposes of this thesis were, among older people in residential care facilities, to validate a fall-risk assessment tool and to evaluate a high-intensity functional weight-bearing exercise pro-gramme regarding its applicability as well as its effect on physical functions and falls. 2. 17. Randomised clinical trials with hyperbaric oxygen in COVID-19 and Long COVID : transcriptomic insights into benefits and harms

    Författare :Anders Kjellberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The flow from transcription of genes through translation and processing of proteins is a common basis for all life. Redox homeostasis is crucial for the defence against oxidative stress. We adapt through hormesis; non-lethal stress regulates redox-sensitive systems to maintain homeostasis. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Preference Effects in the Treatment of Panic Disorder

    Författare :Martin Svensson; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Preference effects; Doubly randomised controlled preference trial; ; Panic disorder; Cognitive behavioural therapy; Psychodynamic therapy;

    Sammanfattning : Patient preferences have drawn considerable attention as a potential moderator of treatment outcome. The Doubly Randomised Controlled Preference Trial (DRCPT) in which patients are randomised to a choice between two or more treatments or random assignment to one of these same treatments is considered one of the most rigorous tests of the effects of patient preferences on outcomes. 4. 19. Physical exercise for older people : focusing on people living in residential care facilities and people with dementia

    Författare :Håkan Littbrand; Erik Rosendahl; Yngve Gustafson; Kerstin Frändin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aged; dementia; exercise; frail elderly; nutrition; randomized controlled trial; residential facilities; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi; sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : The main purposes of this thesis were to evaluate a high-intensity functional weight-bearing exercise programme, regarding its applicability (attendance, achieved intensity, adverse events) as well as its effect on physical functions and activities of daily living (ADL) among older people living in residential care facilities, with a special focus on people with dementia. Furthermore, a main purpose was to systematically review the applicability and effects of physical exercise on physical functions, cognitive functions, and ADL among people with dementia. LÄS MER

  5. 20. The pragmatic randomised trial : a simple research design for real-world evaluation of innovation in tuberculosis care

    Författare :Merrick Zwarenstein; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Tuberculosis was the first disease in history whose treatment regimens were systematically established using randomised controlled trials (RCTs). As a result TB drug treatment regimens are standardised globally, and have been entirely evidence-based for decades. LÄS MER
