11. Structural and functional studies of factor V in health and disease
Sammanfattning : The homologous blood coagulation factors V (FV) and factor VIII (FVIII) are important at sites of vascular injury for the amplification of the clotting cascade. Activated FV (FVa) serves as a cofactor to the enzyme activated factor X (FXa) in the activation of prothrombin. This complex is called the prothrombinase complex. LÄS MER
12. Vitamin K-dependent protein S - studies of synthesis, structure and function
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on four projects with the overall aim to investigate vitamin K-dependent protein S functions in relation to its structure. The anticoagulant functions of protein S can be divided in three: 1) cofactor for activated protein C (APC), 2) cofactor for tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) and 3) APC and TFPI-independent anticoagulant functions. 13. Effects of lipid-lowering treatment on platelet function and hemostatic mechanisms in diabetic patients : influence of chronic kidney disease and inflammatory parameters
Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are both associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and the risk is even higher when they are concurrent. Both diseases are considered to be prothrombotic states with increased inflammatory activity and major disturbances in the hemostasis. LÄS MER
14. Microparticles in hemophilia : friend or foe? To improve hemostasis or to induce atherothrombosis?
Sammanfattning : As one of the most well-known inherited bleeding disorders, hemophilia A (HA) is caused by the deficiency or dysfunction of coagulation factor VIII (FVIII). Patients with HA (PWHA) suffer from abnormal bleeding after injuries or surgeries, or even spontaneous bleeding in severe cases, particularly at joints and muscles. LÄS MER
15. Hepatic and Portal Vein Thrombosis : studies on epidemiology and risk factors
Sammanfattning : Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) i.e. thrombosis in the hepatic veins and/or inferior vena cava, and portal vein thrombosis (PVT) are rare disorders. Epidemiological data are scarce and previous reports have been from highly specialised referral centres. LÄS MER
