21. Coagulation, fibrinolysis and inflammation in open surgery for infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm
Sammanfattning : Elective repair of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) carries a mortality of 4-8% and there is a substantial incidence of serious non-lethal complications. During surgery there is a situation of relative ischaemia and subsequent reperfusion of the lower part of the body. LÄS MER
22. Vascular Interactions in Innate Immunity and Immunothrombosis: : Models of Endothelial Protection
Sammanfattning : The phenomenon known as immunothrombosis has garnered increased attention over the last few years. Much work has been done to characterize the cross talk between hemostasis and the innate immune system. LÄS MER
23. Tissue Factor and CD40 Ligand : Markers for the Interplay of Coagulation and Inflammation in the Acute Coronary Syndrome
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Tissue factor (TF) is a 47 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein known as the main initiator of blood coagulation. CD40 ligand is another membrane molecule, which ligates to cell types associated with atherosclerotic plaques thereby mediating intraplaque inflammation and weakening of the fibrous cap. LÄS MER
24. Thrombosis in Children
Sammanfattning : Aims: The general objective was to further elucidate thromboembolic disease in children and thereby help improve the care of these patients. More specific aims were as follows: to determine what children are affected by thrombosis; to discern any gender or age differences related to thrombosis; to identify prothrombotic risk factors; to ascertain whether autoantibodies against coagulation proteins constitute a risk factor for childhood thrombosis; to study girls receiving estrogen treatment with regard to induced hemostatic changes and efficacy of the therapy; to investigate long-term effects on the hemostatic system in children subjected to heart surgery. 25. Anticoagulant protein C--structural and functional studies
Sammanfattning : Anticoagulant protein C is a vitamin K-dependent factor circulating in plasma as a zymogen of a serine protease. It is converted to its active form (APC) by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex on the surface of endothelial cells. APC inhibits the generation of thrombin by selective proteolytic inactivation procoagulant factors Va and VIIIa. LÄS MER
