  1. 6. Microplastics in the urban environment : Concentrations and composition in stormwater sediments and UV-degradation of common litter

    Författare :Lisa Öborn; Helene Österlund; Maria Viklander; Mats Gustafsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microplastic; stormwater; sediment; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Microplastics (MPs) are small pieces of plastic material including tyre wear particles (TWPs) smaller than 5000 µm. One of the primary pathways through which MPs including TWPs enter aquatic and marine environments is stormwater runoff from urban areas. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Evolutionary ecology of newts

    Författare :Jan C. Malmgren; Hanna Kokko; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; evolution; adaptation; amphibians; salamanders; predation; migration; sexual dimorphism; sex differences; behaviour; conservation; Biology; Biologi; Biologi med ekologisk inriktning;

    Sammanfattning : Sexual dimorphism, predator avoidance and migratory behaviour are adaptive traits that show variation at the population and species level. Such features respond to the environment in the broad sense, that is, when both abiotic and biotic components are included. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Water and sediment quality of urban water bodies in cold climates

    Författare :Ralf Rentz; Stefan Karlsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to investigate and quantify pollution impact on urban waterbodies in cold climates and to find out which complex processes and influencing factors causetrapping or spread of pollutants. In order to do that water, sediment and porewater samplesfrom bays and stormwater ditches in Luleå, northern Sweden, and from an artificialstormwater pond in Sollentuna, south-central Sweden, were analysed for LOI, trace metalsand PAHs. 4. 9. Capture-based mud crab (Scylla serrata) aquaculture and artisanal fishery in East Africa- Practical and ecological perspectives : Mud crab ecology and aquaculture

    Författare :David Oersted Mirera; Per-Olav Moksnes; Olof Linden; Max Troell; Lewis Le Vay; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Mud crab; ecology; aquaculture; economics; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Mud crab Scylla serrata is a crustacean that spends most of its life cycle in the mangrove environment throughout its range. Fishery and aquaculture of this crab are significant economic activities in coastal areas in the tropics and sub-tropics because of the meat quality and nutritional value. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Living in a predation matrix : Studies on fish and their prey in a Baltic Sea coastal area

    Författare :Ida Ahlbeck; Sture Hansson; Hannu Lehtonen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diet analysis methods; Sander lucioperca; behaviour; rearing environment; diel vertical migration; Acartia spp.; Eurytemora affinis; Perca fluviatilis; stable isotopes; body condition; sedentarity; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis was written within the framework of a biomanipulation project where young-of-the-year (YOY) pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) were stocked to a Baltic Sea bay to improve water quality through a top-down trophic cascade. The aim of my doctorial studies was however focused on a broader ecological question, namely predation (the main driving force in a biomanipulation). LÄS MER
